IA Soldiers round up weapons in Sadr City
Multi-National Division Baghdad PAO
BAGHDAD Iraqi Army soldiers seized three weapons caches in Sadr City June 10.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., IA soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st IA Division, seized two improvised explosive devices.
At approximately 9:45 a.m., IA soldiers from the same unit found eight IEDs, five 120 mm mortar rounds, 11 60 mm mortar rounds, 14 rocket-propelled grenades, three hand grenades, a smoke grenade and three SPG-9 rockets.
Soldiers from the unit also seized two IEDs, an RPG launcher, two Katyusha rocket bases, an AK-47, 12 loaded AK-47 magazines and eight empty AK-47 magazines, 200 loose AK-47 rounds and two loaded PKC magazines.
Iraqi Security Forces are performing flawlessly in Sadr City, and it is telling that the residents of the area are coming forward and pointing out many of these weapons cache sites to the ISF, said Lt. Col. Neil Harper, MNC-I spokesman.
The people of Sadr City are tired of the lawlessness that prevailed for so long and have been very helpful to the ISF.
