BAGHDAD – Iraqi Army Soldiers seized and disposed of improvised-explosive devices, IED-making materials and weapons caches in the Sadr City district of Baghdad, June 4.

Iraqi Army Soldiers with the 38th Brigade, 11th Iraqi Army Division, seized a wired artillery shell, a rocket-propelled grenade and an RPG round at approximately 8 a.m.

Thirty minutes later, IA Soldiers from the same unit discovered four IEDs in separate operations. All four IEDs consisted of three “daisy-chained” 120 mm rounds buried underground. An IA explosive ordnance disposal team disarmed the IEDs before they were transported for disposal.

“The capabilities of Iraqi Security Force elements continue to grow,” said Col. Bill Buckner, MNC-I spokesperson. “More Iraqis are stepping forward and helping to reveal weapon caches and criminals, bringing stability and safety to their neighborhoods.”
