CA: Fight to replace Doolittle divides Placer Republicans
Sacramento Bee ^ | 2 June 2008 | Peter Hecht

Posted on 06/02/2008 6:43:01 AM PDT by CounterCounterCulture

(snip)

Doolittle was hailed by elected officials in a vast, stoutly Republican district for bringing home federal dollars. His bountiful political leadership fund furnished the purse strings for candidates and causes. His fiery conservatism plucked the heartstrings of party activists.

(snip)

Regional elected officials who stood with Doolittle now overwhelmingly support former Sacramento-area Rep. Doug Ose, claiming he is best suited to secure federal funding for local projects and infrastructure.

Republican Party activists, particularly the local county GOP central committee members who were among Doolittle's most devout supporters, are breaking strongly for Ose's rival, state Sen. Tom McClintock.

(snip)

Tom Hudson, chairman of the Placer County Republican Central Committee, said "nearly all of the activists have gone with McClintock" as their champion for traditional values and smaller government.

(snip)

But Placer County Supervisor Kirk Uhler said it is no surprise that all five Placer supervisors and some 70 other elected officials in the 4th Congressional District stand with Ose.

"Doug understands the federal government has the responsibility to solve problems," said Uhler, who believes the former Sacramento-area congressman will work to address transportation, water and other infrastructure needs of the district.

(snip)

Doolittle is endorsing neither candidate. His longtime political campaign team is working for Ose. His former California legislative chief of staff is running McClintock's campaign.

Ose, who locked up many endorsements before McClintock entered the race, has district backers including elected officials in eight counties, seven cities and local entities from water agencies to school boards.

“Doug understands the federal government has the responsibility to solve problems”

You know - I looked alllll over the Constitution, and couldn’t find that particular directive.

This clown sums up perfectly what is wrong with RINOS.

Well, you have to admit that the radio ads with McClintock as a king are pretty funny. “Mine is a mighty hunger! Bring forth the melon balls!” I think McClintock will beat Ose handily, and I don’t think there will be any lasting harm. There’s so little there that I think the charges are already moving into the “beating a dead horse” category in the public mind. Vote McClintock. Yes on 98. No on 99.

Does anything more need to be known about Ose?
I pray McClintock wins in a landslide.

I’m predicting McClintock by 20 points (give or take 3).

But Placer County Supervisor Kirk Uhler said it is no surprise that all five Placer supervisors and some 70 other elected officials in the 4th Congressional District stand with Ose.

Kirk Uhler is the son of National Tax Limitation Committee President, Lew Uhler, who should resign because for his support of a pork barrel politician.

We can only hope. This kind of hypocrisy is why the Republican Party is on its knees.

The President of the "National Tax Limitation Committee" wants a pork barrel socialist? I want this to be the end of the Uhlers.

Indeed. I knew I had to excerpt that particular soundbite from the article. Very telling.

My old friend Kirk may think the Feds have a responsibility to solve problems, but he forgets Reagan's admonition that:"Government IS the problem!"

This GovernMentalism galloping into the Republican "leadership" is what opens the door to GovernMental EnvironMentalism that has terminally infected "RINO's" Arnold Schwartzenegger, John McCain and Christ Todd Whitman, et al!!!

I am greatly saddened to see Kirk and his father get swept up in this Liberal Ose Obamanation!!! This really does deeply divide more than just the Placer County Repubs!!! Doolittle helped start the spending creep by being an early supporter of Medicare Drug (Part D) Coverage and it made me intensely nervous at the time. Far more nervous than his closeness to that crooked lobbyist that eventually did him in.

I also remember Doolittle bringing over a million dollars to renovate a tiny park in Auburn, a couple of football fields from the renovated County Court house that was done without any federal funds and was the site of both Ose and McClintock's campaign announcements!!!

John began doing these things to fend off increasing liberal challenges of which creepy Charlie Brown was only the most recent and because of Abramoff, came the closest to unseating him. The Bush Justice department deliberately unseated John because he was too consistently conservative and opened the never-ending investigation just to open the door for someone exactly like Ose who isn't "too conservative!"

Ose is every bit as loose about conservatism as Dan Lundgren who recently won one of the other seats in the neighboring Sacramento area! These two would both be CON-servatives trying vainly to represent two major counties that make Orange County now appear liberal, mainly because half of Orange County has moved to Placer and El Dorado counties in the past decade!!!

Go McClintock!!!!! AAAAAnd, I don't think Doolittle would really endorse Ose. Very telling that his CA staff are working McClintock. They DO know Placer Co. best!!

Ya know what I really hate? Down here in San Diego I only get a mail in ballot. I have no polling place. I just don't feel like they even bother to count my vote! I wish they would do away with this practice!
