Trying to kill rent control was the kiss of death for 98.But that was it's whole purpose. The emminent domain issue was merely a cover. Rent control should be a local issue, particularly where large groups of really elderly seniors are concerned. Why should the state be able to take that local lawmaking ability away from local governments?

Indeed. Instead of having to argue about the struggle between the property owner and Big Government's hostile takeover of property, I've had to argue
ad nauseum about the merits of rent control from our "compassionate" government, and the battle between tenants and the
eeeeeeeeeeevil landlords. Cripes.
Looks like we're going to have to do this again in two years and do it right once and for all and not overreach.

It seems to me like greed and bad judgement on the part of the people who wrote the proposition. (I don't mean greed for money--I mean greed to get everything they want.) In fact, such bad judgement that it might almost be deliberate sabotage.
There's a law that says a proposition can only address one issue. I know, there's rationalizations that say that eminent domain and rent control are really the same issue, but come on....
