Pfleger: 'Hillary and McCain would wish they had a preacher with the integrity of Jeremiah Wright.'
CampaignSpot ^ | 06/01/2008 | Jim Geraghty

I don't know how many of Joel Osteen's flock were thinking of voting for Barack Obama, but I'd like to make sure every last one of them hears this comment from Fr. Michael Pfleger, longtime friend of Obama and one of the Democratic candidate's spiritual mentors:

"Hillary and McCain would wish they had a preacher with the integrity of Jeremiah Wright. … They got some old weak preacher…some old Joel Osteen cotton candy preacher."

Let's just come out and say it — Pfleger is an A-1 jerk [perhaps not the first word that came to mind], and Obama only started objecting to his comments once it started hurting his political ambitions.

The question is, do Osteen's two million weekly viewers and three million book buyers take it personally?

“Don’t any of these “preachers” (Wright, Pfleger, etc...) preach Christ??”

Although it’s only happened maybe twice ever, these particular churches need to have their 501C-3 tax-exempt status jerked for politicking from the pulpit (which they do repeatedly).

I think one important item has been overlooked.
After over 45 years of affrimative action, the War On Povedrty, Welfare, extra credits to get into college for blacks in America, we have had a glimpse into just exactly what the yuppie black in this country really thinks:
We have seen what they eagerly go sit and listen to on Sunday for about 2 hours. They have a more than decent education, clothes, food, cars, jobs that gave them a bump up and over some more qualified candidates, and they sit inside their special “church” on Sunday and lambast the white man whose taxes paid for their welfare and education.
All in all, I think it is disgusting, and I want more attention put upon what has been revealed to all of us. We need to pay attention.

I think the issue of Senator Obama's relationship with racist preachers is THE issue that could eventually sink his campaign if the Senator does not spend the time to properly distance himself from these preachers. You'd think that after Reverend Jeremiah Wright's speech in front of the NAACP the Senator would cut himself off from the Reverend.

I hope he keeps talking.

When I first heard the audio clips of Fr. Rev. Pflegler I thought it was a black preacher. He sounds like a southern black preacher to a tee. Something fake about that....seems like his sermon words are rooted in emotionalism and not the meat of the Word.

“The best description I’ve heard of Pfleger’s bizarre preaching style is “channelling Dick Shawn in The Producers.”

LOL!

Yep. And if this is all my contibutions to inner-city charities has bought, they're off the list. They're obviously just a scam to enrich the people running them who do nothing but teach hate. Not another dime.

Father Pfleger really gets into character during some sermons.

What is up with Pfleger? Couldn’t he find a Catholic congregation somewhere? I see a pathetic imitation of a black standup comedian, trying as hard as possible to insult everyone who is not a black liberation dissident. Since when did the Catholic church need a black panther, nation of Islam diocese? This is not the way to bring blacks into the Catholic church. You try and shape the person into an image more like God, not shape the church into an image more like a nightclub.

Part of Pfleger’s remarks in one sermon were: “America is the greatest sin against God.” (Audio just played on the John Batchelor radio show on KFI-AM.)

I was thinking more of the Carthage treatment (i.e., razing these false churches to ground, and salting the land with salt...)...

Paul foresaw these characters infesting our churches - who seek to make disciples for themselves - and not for Christ:

Acts 20:29-30 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

Dear Sen. Obama,

Now that you are back on the market, so to speak, having abandoned your church home of two decades to allow your friends to “worship in peace”, I’d like to invite you to consider my church. Let me tell you a little bit about it.

Senator, in my church we love and worship Jesus. We believe the Bible is the word of God. Our preachers faithfully proclaim the gospel of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. Our people live out their faith in a variety of ways, from feeding the poor, to providing medical care in rural Africa and elsewhere, to taking the good news of Jesus to Tanzania, France, England and several dozen other places around the world.

Sen. Obama, if you love Jesus, and enjoy the fellowship of others who share your faith in Christ, then you and Michelle and the girls might feel at home here.

Of course, we’re not perfect. We lack some of the features to which your family has become accustomed. For example, our pastors never talk about political candidates from the pulpit. There’s not a whole lot of angry screaming — in fact, none. No preacher here has ever called down God’s condemnation upon our native land.

In fact, on Memorial Day and Independence Day and Veterans Day, we praise God that we live in a free land, thanks to the willing sacrifice of those who bled and died that this nation might live. We actually sing, from time to time, ‘God Bless America’, because it’s a prayer to the one who has secured our liberty that he might guide us even in dark and troubling times.

We’re Republicans. We’re Democrats. We’re Independents. We’re political apathetics. We’re Americans. Above all, we’re people who love Jesus. Through Jesus, we have come to love others, even those with whom we disagree. We’re happy that “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:1,2)

If you like liberation theology, at our church you get it, but it’s not limited to the poor, or to any particular race, because “if the Son (Jesus) sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:38) no matter what you look like or how much you earn.

So, Sen. Obama, now that you’re church shopping, why not stop by?

For a man who’s all about “change” this one might be refreshing.

Sincerely,
Scott Ott

So, this is the “official” Catholic teaching on this matter? If not, why isn’t he excommunicated?

The Catholic church has a house it is still FAR from getting in order. What, otherwise, is an “official hierarchy” for?

When I first heard the audio clips of Fr. Rev. Pflegler I thought it was a black preacher...

I admit, I couldn't bring myself to watch any of the clips... but I read the transcripts, and about how the ('congregation' .... or more accurately put: the 'audience') responded.
I'm no Hillary fan -- but the pulpit isn't a place to mock people and to throw insults. We are all sinners in need of a Saviour. The pastor's job is to point people towards repentance and towards Christ. Wallowing in self-pity, throwing insults, and spreading hatred does just the opposite...
A pox on the Pfleglers, Wrights, and their ilk... They need repentance and saving too, but in their present position they seem more interested in leading their flocks off the cliff in their desire for self-aggrandizement.

Cid....watch the video at least once of Rev. Pfleger spouting off his words. Adds a different perspective and he’s quite the showman. Spot on about your mention of what is important for messages coming from the pulpits.
