TRANSCRIPT

Barack Obama Press Avail

Aberdeen, South Dakota

May 31, 2008

Q: On the church decision do you feel this will put the issue behind you politically or do you feel it will persist and having done this now, do you wish you had done it several months ago?

BO: Well, you know, after the National Press Club episode, as I said, I had a long conversation with Michelle and also had a long conversation with Reverend Moss. We prayed on it and you know, my interest has never been to try to politicize this or put the church in a position where is subject to the same rigors and demands of a presidential campaign. My suspicion at that time, and Michelle, I think, shared this concern, was that it was going to be very difficult to continue our membership there so long as I was running for president. The recent episode with Father Pfleger I think just reinforced that view that we don't want to have to answer for everything that’s stated in a church. On the other hand, we also don't want a church subjected to the scrutiny that a presidential campaign legitimately undergoes. I mean, that’s … I don't want Reverend Moss to have to look over his shoulder and see that his sermon vets or if it’s potentially problematic for my campaign or will attract the fury of a cable program. And so, I have no idea how it will impact my presidential campaign. But I know it's the right thing to do for the church and for our family.

Q: How will that not be different when you join another church?

Sounds to me like win or lose, good chance Obama and family will be returning to Trinity Church once the campaign is over.

Yep. That’s Obama.

Did he get Rosie O’Donnell’s endorsement too? She used a racist stereotype of Chinese “talk” on her show to discuss how she was even making the world press over something she had done.

He’ll probably be finished with the Chicago power base.

What is there for him to accomplish there?

Do you think his goal was a lifetime in the Senate? He is running for the Presiduncy in his first term.

Brak sez “I don't want Reverend Moss to have to look over his shoulder and see that his sermon vets or if it’s potentially problematic for my campaign”

Yeah, that's a bad thing when a preacher has to change his message because it doesn't “vet.” If Obama and his preacher only had some kind of guidebook, seems like they wouldn't have to worry about vetting the message. Darn that scrutiny. The church needs to beef up security at the door.

I just listened to it on YouTube. I know what you mean. Every couple words was “uh”. The media won’t get on him for this, although they have scrutinized Bush’s speaking for the past 8 years.

Obama joined this church, probably, for three reasons:

1) To make connections with the black community and black power leaders in Chicago, where he planned to run for office.

2) To be able to say that he is a “member of a Christian church” if anyone asks him if he is a Muslim.

3) Because he is a black-power, white-hating ideologue himself, no different from Louis Farrakhan or Rev. Wright (also formerly a Black Muslim). He hates Whitie too, but he’s better at hiding it because he has a different plan.
