UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - A Los Angeles fire official says a large fire is burning on a lot at Universal Studios.
Angeles fire Capt. Frank Reynoso says the blaze was reported just before dawn Sunday on a sound stage on a back lot. There are no immediate reports of injuries.
Reynoso says filming could have been going on at the time and that there has been at least one explosion.
He says the fire is contained to the back lot, and firefighters are working to ensure the flames don't spread to nearby brush. Helicopters are dropping water onto the burning structures.
About 100 city and county firefighters are helping studio firefighters tackle the blaze.

Universal City (myfoxla.com) —
Two helicopters and about 200 firefighters were trying to protect the film vaults on Universal City’s backlot, where a huge predawn fire broke out on a sound stage during a production, authorities said.
The blaze was reported in a sound stage on the studio backlot about 4:45 a.m., and about 200 county firefighters were helping studio firefighters quench the blaze, which reportedly spread to the New York City streetscape.

The fire began during a film shoot, he said.
At least one sound stage and several other buildings were believed to have been lost within about 30 minutes.

It’s a start.
The film vault, Back to the Future lot and I think King Kong are gone. 300 firefighters on scene.
Their loss is our gain.
>>Their loss is our gain.<<
It’s history. The clocktower from Back to the Future is gone. I find this to be very sad.
There was a fire in 1990. 50 million dollars worth of damage.
It seemed to be started on the NYC streetscape and they were filming. There was a huge explosion, perhaps propane.
Somebody made them an offer they refused.
If the film vault is gone, we’ve lost a huge part of our cultural heritage.
Agreed- hate to think of film/tv history going up in flames.
If that fire sets off all the Hollywood BS,
it'll burn for days!
I just heard from the live feed that The Shoah Project interviews....
