ANN ARBOR, MI – Military prosecutors are expected to call as their witness General James N. Mattis, a highly respected Marine officer and one of only a handful of four-star Marine generals, to testify in the court-martial hearing against LtCol Jeffrey Chessani on June 2, 2008, at Camp Pendleton, California.

The Military Judge’s previous finding of unlawful command influence shifted the burden to the prosecutors to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that: (1) the facts upon which the unlawful command influence is based are untrue; or (2) those facts do not constitute unlawful command influence; or (3) the unlawful command influence will not affect the proceedings.

Now, this is where it gets interesting because it involves one, Colonel John Ewers, USMC

“When our defense team previously sought to take General Mattis’ sworn deposition to support our motion, we were denied. Now prosecutors, with little trouble, get to call him as their witness.”

Double standard to say the least. Cross examination is going to be interesting.

Colonel John Ewers, USMC may be the lynchpin in this case..I believe the prosecutions case will unravel when it is shown that Col Ewers was a military fellow of the CSIS- The Center for Strategic and International Studies. Col. Ewers is not listed as an Expert, nor as an Affiliated Advisor and Expert, but as a Military Fellow 2004-2005. Here is the URL with his picture

http://www.csis.org/%22index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=58&Itemid=98\";

Now, take a look at the CSIS Board of Trustees and it looks like a political index of Who is Who in Washington and in the World..Here is the URL for that site:

http://www.csis.org/about/trustees/

Col Ewers was one of the investigators of the Haditha incident and he was privy to about 25 meetings where this case was discussed with the Generals who controlled or influenced the disposition, or progression of LT Col Chessani’s case...As investigator his part perhaps should have ended with the presentation of the facts as he found them, so why would he have to meet nearly 25 times with the Generals to accomplish this task?...With his knowledge of that facts as he saw them, coupled with the list of people he knew and was perhaps influenced (greatly or coincidentally), it will be a huge challenge for the prosecution to show that he did not influence the Generals who were in charge...His very presence there, and the fact that he may have had some powerful political connections is going to be a huge mountain for the prosecution to ascend,and it does not take a great leap of thinkiing to see that there may have been, and perhaps there was, undue command influence in the person of Col John Ewers...I believe that the prosecution will be unable to prove, ‘ beyond a reasonable doubt” that there was no undue command influence..I believe also that the 4 star General James N. Mathis USMC may also come to the same conclusion and help bring an end to this situation that basically arose out of political disagreement with the war and a media frenzy, and that General Mathis will help to clear Lt Col Chessani who all along has been a good man and a good Marine...

Mattis had his chance to stop this crap when he was the convening authority. The lives and careers of the men under your command mean nothing when you are reaching for a star.

Getting a fourth star doesn't mean your balls grew any bigger.

CSIS is a serious gang of apologists for the Islamists too. Zbig Brezinski, who says that 9-11 wasn’t even an act of war, is or was until recently a scholar there. He is now B. Hussein Obama’s top foreign policy adviser.

And CSIS gets all sorts of money from “the Gulf”

They are not to be trusted.
