Is this goodbye? [Clintons]
Guardian UK ^ | June 1, 2008 | Michael Crowley

Posted on 05/31/2008 5:55:30 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

From the beginning, it was Hillary who took charge. 'Look,' she told the future President of the United States in a wood-panelled reading room at the Yale Law School library, 'if you're going to keep staring at me, and I'm going to keep staring back, we should at least introduce ourselves. I'm Hillary Rodham.'

The year was 1970, and Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham had just embarked on a lifetime of cinematic personal and public highs and lows. As she did that flirty afternoon in New Haven, Connecticut, Hillary played a dominant role, one greater than many Clinton watchers ever realised. With her discipline and determination and his almost supernatural charm, they made for a seemingly unconquerable couple - their marriage vows as resistant to scandal as their power was to political enemies.

But now, in the closing days of the 2008 Democratic presidential race, the Clintons' luck is running out. Blindsided by Obamamania, Hillary is almost certain to concede defeat in the weeks to come, abandoning her dream of a restoration, of returning to a White House the Clintons clearly assumed would be theirs again some day.

Indeed, the long-reigning royals of the Democratic Party must contemplate their greatest defeat with disbelief. Their lifetime in politics has often been an absurd high-wire act, a constant defiance of natural political gravity. Time and again they seemed beaten, broken, shamed - and each time they bounced back stronger than before. The question now, in the twilight of Hillary's campaign, is whether they can mount one last comeback, or whether the curtain has fallen at last on the Clinton era.

I suppose that nowadays, her line is like, "As long as you're staring at me, and I'm staring back, I might as well throw this ashtray."

And the question is, has Bill been hitting on Huma?

Belated welcome back, Jim.

You are still being prayed for.

Cheers!

They’re not going away until they die. I know it. You know it. In fact, when they die, make sure it’s really them and they’re really dead.

Is this not the definition of schadenfreude?

Carter is getting up there in and years and needs help monitoring fake elections by communist third world countries and interfering with US foreign relations. Just like soar milk you can spit it out but that taste in your mouth never seems to go away.

Don't count her out just yet. She's still relatively young. She must be in her what? Mid-seventies?

There are Senators in the low 100s like Kennedy, Byrd, Warner, Leahy who are still in their prime.

Take some time off, Hill. Wait ten...fifteen...twenty years. Get tanned, rested and ready and go for it again.

But their shared brilliance and a passion for politics bonded them, not least against Bill's taste for a less cerebral brand of woman.

As opposed to Hillary's taste for more cerebral women?

Epilogue

(My dream of how history will view them, assuming that someday the truth will come out about the horrible deeds that they have been able to cover up until now.)

They left a trail of corruption, treachery, and dead bodies behind them. Their luck finally ran out. Hillary never realized her ambition to be President, and they died in disgrace as one crime after another was revealed by coconspirators. They have been relegated to the ash heap of history. Future generations will wonder how such an awful couple could garner so much support from so many people and rise to the most powerful political office in the world.

The role of the media in their success cannot be overlooked. A new, more cynical generation has arisen, one which will not believe the printed or spoken word without corroboration from independent sources.

If anything positive can be said about the Clintons’ contribution to America, it is this: The public will not be so easily fooled again.

(It’s just a dream. One can dream, can’t one?)

I do not admire either of them for putting this country through eight years of the worst of times. Doesn’t matter that they popped back after each debaucle, because it just fed their egos. Think this country has an interesting, albeit very difficult time until the election. Somehow, I think it will be a real test for REAL Americans.

P.S. So good to have you back, Jim.

The increasingly obvious answer is that if Plan A doesn’t work, look for Plan B with Chelsea.

The FReeper dead wrote and published a play which followed the Clintons' lives until their end.

The end came for Bill while he was sitting beneath the awning of his mobile home in a Barstow, CA trailer park, sucking on a can of warm beer, clad in a strap undershirt.

My first choice would've been Leavenworth, but I thought dead's a very appropriate conclusion.

“They’re not going away until they die. I know it. You know it. In fact, when they die, make sure it’s really them and they’re really dead.”

And if they are dead, take the bodies, hack them into a thousand pieces, take the pieces into shark infested waters and pour the remains in the drink.
