Nanny State: Squeezing the Zest for Life Out of the British
DBKP ^ | May 31, 2008 | pat

Nanny State Only Has a Zest for Bossing People Around Three small stories illustrate the Nannies in action.

The Nanny State

The primary goal of the Nanny State appears to be to make life so uncomfortable and colorless for the citizens, that they fail to understand how uncomfortable their lives have become.

For example:

Living in Britain is now more dangerous than the Balkans

"You are more likely to be assaulted, robbed and burgled in Britain than in the region of southeast Europe once synonymous with war and gangsters, according to a report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime."

So the Police are applying themselves to the protection of society, right?

Wrong!
5.7% of rapists get convicted. Why? Because the wonderful Police of Britains have decided that it is not a serious crime. Women are more casual about sex, you see.

Or so the authorities opine.

"After Linda Davies reported to police that her 15-year-old daughter had been raped, it took three months -- plus two dozen phone calls and a threat of legal action -- before police questioned the suspect, a 28-year-old neighbor. "
And note, we are not talking about consensual or statutory rape here.

The Brits have reacted vigorously to the increasingly dangerous society they have created. They have disarmed their citizens--so as to not provoke the criminals.

The streets of Britain are now crowded with gangs of drunken yobs that are slowly turning UK cities into something out of Clockwork Orange. Travelers are warned not to look at anyone and not to leave your hotel after 11:00 PM. Stay out of Muslim neighborhoods.

So How Does Britain Respond?

Coming to a neighborhood near you! As we continue to celebrate diversity instead of celebrating what units us as a nation you can expect the Balkanization of America to continue full speed ahead. We are committing cultural suicide on a massive scale and no one seems willing to stop it. I fear for this great republic…

Nope. Not in my neighborhood. We all have CCW permits.

Keep celebrating the way you do my friend and my optimism will increase incrementally. Keep fighting the good fight…

I have been saying for years that we need to celebrate our commonality or we are doomed. The Diversity First crowd are the dividers. Not us.

I could not agree more originalbuckeye. I’m originally from PA and have seen first hand how “diversity” destroys once harmonious communities. Take for instance Oil City, PA.

This North Western Pennsylvania community used to be a wonderful place to raise a family, grow old, and die. That has all but disappeared when the politicians decided that the town was too white and thought the solution should be to ‘import people’ from Philadelphia.

Now we have gang violence (Detroit style), drug wars, competing welfare interests, and a local government rife with corruption. Glad I left it…

Depends. The threat alone seems to work well. Bad guys see a bulge in a jacket and think twice.

But, a very telling stat is that of "Hot Burglaries", (i.e. House break-ins with the owners at home.) The rate is 57% in Britain, 12% in the US. Because here, there may be an armed homeowner to contend with.

One of these days the Nanny Statists will learn -— but it will then be too late for them.

What goes around comes around.

Quite right, the threat alone is a substantial deterrence, but in the face of imminent danger to you or your family will you have any reservations at all at using this God-given right to self defense? Just curious.

The nation in which one is most likely to experience the highest degree of personal and economic freedom is Estonia (yes, that would be the former Soviet sattelite).

I'm actually thinking about moving there.

You might want to consider Costa Rica as well.

Beautiful country.

Looked into that.

There are so many ex-pats from here down there that they're already starting to screw it up.

None at all. I would die (or go to prison) for my wife and son. And were it just me, I invoke the old saying, "Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six."

An invocation I often use myself. Good man, pardon my inquisitive nature. I’m still disturbed by the “And were it just me” part of your reply. What does that imply?

Just that I might give it a half-second's more thought before I fired. In other words, there would be no hesitation to protect my family. Alone, I might react a bit more slowly considering the consequences if I got a rabid prosecutor and OJ Simpson's jury. (I've spent 14 days of my life in a county jail during a divorce case. I'd rather not see real prison unless it saved my family.)
