There is a gentleman who lives done the street from me who is from Sicily. We have what you would call a nodding acquaintance. After 9/11 he erected a flagpole in his front yard. At its base is a carefully crafted arrangement of stone mulch: white stones in the shape of a star on a field of red stones. I think he plants deep purple flowers on either side of the red field. I wish I could check to see if I have described it correctly, but it's dark and rainy now. He put a lot of work into it and I love that he made it. It looks quite classy.
