Broadcast TV finally conveyed Sex and the City episodes to a wider public, albeit with a bit of editing here and there. The HBO breakout chick-flickette series gathered garlands and huzzahs, and a few brickbats, thru S&Cs long run on cable. It quickly saturated the post-HBO syndicated broadcast market, and fell short of many assessments by conservative voices. Much more mainstream than youd have guessed, and far more than Id guessed until the saturation distribution reached my eyes and ears. And analytical synapses.
Now comes a summer release of the awaited feature film, with Big and Carrie rumored to wed. Its no surprise, if one came to S&C the way I did. Thanks to circumstance, I saw middle episodes before the pilot, running thru the final season on LA outlet broadcast signal, before an unheralded repeat loop showed the series original concept. All the chattering commentary escaped my eyes at its inception, so I risk an overlap with what may have been said way back then, but here goes:
Much better, and much more conservative, than one would have guessed. [more @ ExileStreet]

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
I’ll be in the audience before this day is over.
the ironic thing is that by the end of the series all four find themselves in pretty much stable, committed relationships.
The only people who enjoy this horrible show about four used-up cougars are . . . used-up cougars and used-up cougars in training.
Um, didn’t they ALL get married or close?
It's all part of our spiral down the rabbit hole. My only solace is that I go to a church where there are many young people..I fill up on hope there and by the next Sunday I seem to be empty again.
Indeed. The message is: sleep around as long as you want with whomever you want and eventually you will still find love and fulfillment.
In real life, women who sleep around until they are in their mid-forties wind up alone and bitter.
Actually, this article was a refreshing change from both the LA and NY Times reviews.

Actually I don't watch the show, but it's my sister's birthday, and she asked me to see it with her in a few weeks...
What a good brother! I’ve been watching DVD’s since I don’t have HBO and have enjoy the theme of female friendship through good times and bad. And some of the lines are positively priceless. Thanks for the photo.
I'm a sister...:)
Garbage.
On other forums and around the lunch table, it’s discussed and yes, the themes are pretty universal....and yes, some of the lines are priceless!
So is there at least nudity from someone other than that nasty old chick in the movie version?
Yikes! Showing my tendency to apply gender willy-nilly. It would have been the first man who’s admitting to seeing the film!
My old computer sees a box with the red X.
You are SO RIGHT, except it's been much longer than just the last 10 years. Think Twiggy.
