I have a question: why doesn’t the Air Force have Warrent Officers??
I don’t know.....off to Google to see what I can find.
Answer: I don't know, but click the link for the ranks the Air Force DOES have.
If you recall, the traditions of the USAF came from the Army Air Corps, and the Air Corps traditions from the Army.
A warrant officer in the Army right before and during WWII was really a specialist in a certain field. They had lots of time in service.
Not sure, but I think the AF wanted to establish the senior enlisted ranks without the “gray area” between officers and enlisted. Possibly it also went toward the separation of the AF and the Army tradition wise.
