Just heard Brian Williams announce on NBC Nightly News that Harvey Korman passed away.

Really strange. A day or two after a monstrous abortionist called Harvey Karman died, and people in that thread were saying, “I’m glad it wasn’t Korman!”

The Carol Burnett show was a touch before my time (I'm 31) but I've just popped in 'Blazing Saddles' as it's a favorite movie in our household.
Rest in peace, Harvey Korman, and thank you for the many laughs you gave us over the years.

Wow, another great comic gone. The man was a legend. He will always be remembered as Hedley Lamar.

I had to go and find the dentist sketch as well (what did we do before YouTube?) - here's a slightly better copy. One of the few times he ever completely lost it and couldn't get back into character and stay in character, meanwhile Conway just keeps going.

Oh, how sad... Korman, Tim Conway and Carol were priceless on the Carol Burnett Show.

I loved when they would ad lib--usually Tim Conway--and the others would get tickled.

Comedy was so much more clever in those days. Today they have to have profanity or things that can be taken two ways...one vulgar...to get a laugh.

Haven't seen the show running in the last few years. IIRC it was Nick or TV Land who had it then. I think DVD sales are what causes the drought on great shows like this being televised.

There were times when Tim would take off and everybody else was just along for the ride until he came back to something that resembled a line from the script.

Audiences were a bit more sophisticated in those days and CBS was the Tiffany network, with a slightly older and better educated demographic. You didn’t have to hit people over the head with the most obvious joke in order for them to ‘get’ it.

The show had some unique aspects, including being one of the last to use a live sound effects man, and one of the last primetime shows to have its own live orchestra in the studio every week. That turned out to be a problem when syndication time came around, because keeping the musical numbers would have triggered a requirement to pay all the musicians again. So, when the show re-ran on independent stations in local markets, it ran as a half-hour version with just the sketches included. I always wondered whether those who first saw the show that way ever found out that Steve Lawrence was also a singer.

A movie that could not be made today. It savaged every protected group.

"You boy's are dancin' 'round like a bunch of Kansas City faggots."

"Excuse me while I whip this out."

"Hello boys, miss me?"

"Let's welcome our new .... (looks up) .. n******."

Mel Brooks threw everything in that movie. Blazing Saddles and It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World are the two best comedies ever made.

One of favorites came in the later seasons when they started doing an audience Q&A at the end of the Carol Burnett show ( usually only a couple of questions at the most ). An audience member asked Harvey if Tim Conway was that funny in real life. Harvey said he went to visit Tim at his house just after Crazy Glue came out. He said that Tim had manged to glue himself to just about everything.
