Former Gov. Pete Wilson has lashed out at GOP state Sen. Tom McClintock, saying McClintock couldn't be counted on in the Legislature and should not go to Congress.
Wilson, a fellow Republican, made the remarks during a campaign event for the 4th Congressional District GOP primary organized by McClintock rival Doug Ose. The two are battling to replace incumbent GOP Rep. John Doolittle, who is retiring.
McClintock was in the state Assembly while Wilson was governor. Wilson said McClintock was the first to criticize but the last to help his own team.
McClintock's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the former governor's remarks.

I’ve gotten two of those so far indicating Arnold’s opposition to Prop 98 and support for Prop 99.
I tell ya... these crooks need to get cut off from their trough.
Up until they jumped into the race I thought Rico Oller would have had a good shot.
To be expected from a sawed-off bag of excrement like sWillson.
I don’t live in the district—I just run the McClintock ping list. Someone else may be able to give a more accurate depiction.
Back in February, Tom was kind of recruited to run in the district by the locals. Two other GOP candidates (Rico Oller and Eric Egland) stepped aside to back him, believing (based on some GOP polls) that McClintock had the best shot at fending off the Dems who are geared up to try to take the district. McClintock’s official residence was in Southern California but, since being a legislator has been his job the last two decades, he and his family have made their home either in, or directly adjacent to, the 4th district.
Ose actually represented an adjacent district when he was elected to Congress before. Someone posted that he has taken to using his mother’s address for this election.
Again... my memory is sketchy on this so others can feel free to fill in the blanks or correct my recollection. I don’t have the energy to go back and research the exact history.
Disappointing, to say the least, but Wilson is a Republican first, and McClintock is a Conservative first.
I've heard Ose's despicable ads implying that McClintock is anti-military because of some vote in which he was one of only two Senators that voted against it. From what I know about the California Legislature and Senator McClintock, if he voted against it, it must've been a pretty sh*tty bill. And I guess since Ose is castigating McClintock for voting against it, that must mean Ose would've voted for it. Is that what the 4th District needs? Another Republican who goes along to get along with RATS?
I agree that Oller would've been a good choice but is he from that district? It seems to me he was from Chico but Chico isn't all that far from Sacramento so I suppose he could live somewhere in the 4th District.
I wouldn't just pick on him. I've voted for him before too. I don't think he is so great that he needs to shop for a seat somewhere, anywhere just to stay in office. Hillary Clinton running for the Senate from New York was pretty blatant seat shopping too. Just because it seems to be more and more prevalent recently does not mean that is a good idea.
Just be glad your district isn’t yet infested with the NY and NJ carpetbaggers infesting California!
It could be a whole lot worse! In fact, I’d welcome most any 4th district republican down here in Los Angeles. ;-)
I can't win around here. {shakes head}
LOL I'll bet!
McClintock isn't really a bad guy, I'm just disappointed that I get the impression that a pretty safe Conservative and Republican district is getting botched and we'll end up with a cartoon character (charlie brown) for representation.
I feel your pain. ;-)
The Republican party will die shortly-and McCain and your governor(s) will be the killers!!
You read my tagline? ;-)
Perhaps I would be paranoid in thinking Wilson was trying to ostracize the conservative so that the transvestite republican (labeled (R) on the outside but the inside is nothing but a back-pedaling pro-choice for the troops against the war appeaser who believes everything said on CNN idiot) would seem the only electable choice. Sounds kinda familiar, wonder where that came from.
With Hillary, it's clear that that she was carpetbagging for any seat that would take her (basing her credibility on her husband's credentials). The same could be said for Alan Keyes in Illinois when Jack Ryan dropped out and Obama won.
Let's not also forget that Mitt Romney ran for Governor of Massachusetts after his father was Governor of another state, he was associated with the Utah Olympics, etc.?
What's wrong with a qualified person, with bona fides and a resume, hanging their shingle for others to hire to fill a need?
McClintock has been a staple in California politics for many years, and many elections. He held his seat for many years, ran for Lt. Governor, ran for Governor, and is now running for Congress. Why nor ask a California Congressional district if they would have him?

Early in his first term, Wilson signed $7.3 billion in tax increases. He spent the rest of his time in office trying to compensate for it.
The state party hates McClintock because he places principles first while they place winning votes first. Ronald Reagan won votes because he had principles and clearly enunciated them without apology.
Pete Wilson? Pete Stark? Is there a difference? Well it’s California. See what happens when you put too many rats in the cage?
Nothing like being a sore loser!
