Ex-Gov. Wilson takes sides in Northern Calif. GOP primary

Former Gov. Pete Wilson has lashed out at GOP state Sen. Tom McClintock, saying McClintock couldn't be counted on in the Legislature and should not go to Congress.

Wilson, a fellow Republican, made the remarks during a campaign event for the 4th Congressional District GOP primary organized by McClintock rival Doug Ose. The two are battling to replace incumbent GOP Rep. John Doolittle, who is retiring.

McClintock was in the state Assembly while Wilson was governor. Wilson said McClintock was the first to criticize but the last to help his own team.

McClintock's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the former governor's remarks.

Both Ose and McClintock are carpetbaggers and old tired political whores. Too much to ask that someone who has actually lived and worked in the 4th District run.

Pete Wilson deliberately sandbagged McClintock’s run for statewide office beginning in 1994. McClintock has always been a threat to the CA RINO establishment, and this should be the biggest boost of confidence to Conservatives that supporting him is the RIGHT thing to do.

ummmmm, where you been Pete? Where have you been while the socialists have taken over vetoproof majorities in both houses of the CA legislature?

Personally, I liked Pete and his wife. Nice people. But in a choice between Ose and McClintock I would go with the guy who would cut my taxes. Not that Ose is inherently a bad guy but he wasn’t leading anything that I’m aware of.

I wonder how Pete feels being “irrelevant” these days.

What's up with that?

I guess it shouldn't be too surprising considering we ended with the Three Stooges for President to choose from out of a nation of 300 million. How many people live in the 4th District? About 200 thousand? I'm surprised you didn't end up having to choose between Humphrey the Humpback Whale and that horrendous Sacramento Kings mascot.

Pete Wilson is a RINO. If Wilson backs Ose then I know my money on McClintock is the right decision.

“...saying McClintock couldn’t be counted on in the Legislature...”

Wilson couldn’t count on McClintock to be the RINO Wilson is, so of course he slanders McClintock.

McClintock won't support the Wilson-Negger big-government tax-raising government and never has. McClintock spoke out against Wilson and he speaks out against Arnie. Schwarzenegger stabbed McClintock in the back only 2 weeks before his last run for Lt. Governor and today Pete Wilson wields the knives.

As long as the Wilsonnegger scum infest the Republican Party in California, conservative candidates will be undermined by this pack of rats.

Beautifully put, calcowgal!

I didn’t realize Ahnold had stabbed McClintock in the back 2 weeks before his Lt. Gov. run.

The CA GOP is a joke. I’ve suggested to Mac that he consider running as an Independent conservative, but he continues on in the RINO-run party! So Mac is IN PART to blame for foolishly hoping such a liberal, big tent POS party will continue backing him.

That all may be true but eldoradodude's main point was that McClintock doesn't even live in the district.

That doesn't necessarily mean he wouldn't represent the district adequately. It just never ceases to amaze me how limited our choices are when it comes to quality people from which to choose.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a McClintock fan. I don't know if FR's archives go back to the days of Grayout Davis's recall, but if they do you'll see I pretty much led the charge against the Schwarzegroupies in favor of McClintock.

I was so un-surprised when the slick mailer came that I didn't even have any reaction! Pretty unusual for me!!!

I think I made some comment on a thread recently that brought up Weasley Wilson's hatred for McClintock by reminding everyone that Governor Wilson, rather loudly and with absolutely no class whatsever, so all in the hall outside the Governor's office could hear, told the good Tom McClintock that he was "F____ing irrelevant" for not going along with the big five on the biggest tax increase ever proposed for CA at that time by wicked Wilson!!!

Come November, a LOT of so-called Repubs are going to be irrelevant. Hard times raise good leaders though, so not all is lost.

Since the passing of term limits in CA, every politician is seat-shopping. Why hold McClintock to this as if it were a sin only unto him?

During the Lt. Gov. run in 2006, Arnie gave all sorts of opportunities to McClintock’s opponent (Garamendi), as well as Poochigian (who was running for AG against Jerry Brown). Three were various public events where he invited the Dems to be spotlighted.

A couple weeks before the election at some big event, Arnie slimed McClinctock by saying he was “totally wrong” in opposing Arnie’s mega-billion big-bang borrowing bonanza.

With friends like these... well, you know.
