NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Barack Obama's campaign says the candidate made a mistake when he said a great uncle helped liberate the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz during World War II.
Obama said Monday that his uncle was among the first U.S. troops at Auschwitz. But Auschwitz was liberated by Soviet forces.
The campaign said Tuesday that he named the wrong camp. They said it was actually Buchenwald.
Aides said his grandmother's brother, Charlie Payne, helped liberate a Buchenwald sub-camp in April 1945 as part of the 89th Infantry Division.
Critics had been questioning Obama's original comment mentioning Auschwitz

Critics noticed Obama had no white 'uncle', and the only crazy 'uncle' he seems to have is Rev Wright, and Ogaffa threw him under the bus weeks ago.
Of course, the MSM does not call him for using Memorial Day (and saying he saw dead vets in the audience) and the Holocaust for his own political gain. I wonder if any freepers know how to look up military records for his grandmother's brother, Charlie Payne, to see if he actually was there in April 1945?

RUSH:...Here's a final sound bite from President Bush.
THE PRESIDENT: On this Memorial Day, I stand before you as the commander-in-chief and try to tell you how proud I am of the sacrifice and service of the men and women who wear our uniform. They're an awesome bunch of people, and the United States is blessed to have such citizens. I am humbled by those who have made the ultimate sacrifice that allow our free civilization to endure and flourish. It only remains for us, the heirs of their legacy, to have the courage and the character to follow their lead and to preserve America as the greatest nation on earth and the last, best hope for mankind. May God bless you, and may God bless America.
RUSH: Again, that's the stupid idiot George Bush who can't speak, on Memorial Day. This was Barack Obama in Las Cruces, New Mexico, yesterday.
OBAMA: On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes -- and I see many of them in...in the audience here today -- our sense of patriotism is particularly strong.

Obama said Monday that his uncle was among the first U.S. troops at Auschwitz. But Auschwitz was liberated by Soviet forces. Maybe he meant his other uncle, you know, the Communist one.

Well it now appears it may simply Obama who doesnt know enough or doesnt care to be able to relate the story accurately.
CNN story refers to statement from Obama camp that says it was a great-uncle serving in the 89th Infantry Division, liberating one of the sub-camps at Buchenwald. That does seem to be borne out in the division history, IF the Obama campaign is now accurate about the great-uncle and IF said great-uncle was actually there:

Be prepared for the push-back as the Demagogues and the MSM scream how could you dare to question the heroic tale of a liberator of Buchenwald?
The real question should be
HOW COULD OBAMA BE SO CARELESS AND INACCURATE ABOUT EVENTS OF SUCH ENORMOUS MORAL AND HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE?
He has botched this story in both 2002 and 2008, that we know about. At the very least it is fair to say he knows nothing about the history of the liberation of Europe in 1945.

Whatever the facts regarding Obama’s great uncle, let’s just remember Obama had nothing to do with liberating anything. In the great struggles of his own lifetime, Obama has been squarely against doing the right thing.

Obama was referring to his “Uncle Joe,” who liberated Poland.
Uncle Joe Stalin, that is.
Obama looks up to Uncle Joe, a lot, so this is understandable.

I think I got this figured out. Obamas momma had a momma, that would be Obama’s momma’s momma and she had a brother, that would be Obmama’s momma’s momma’s brother, that had a great great nephew, a very great nephew indeed, that when asked who chopped down that cherry tree told the truth when he said Popeye did it, or something like that. Yeah, thats the ticket!
