Well, if you had listened to the tapes, you would have discovered that Mexicans who are making 50 cents an hour routinely come to the US illegally and make $10+ an hour.
I know you all believe that the Mexicans are being paid 5$ or less per hour, but that is either rare or not true.
The upshot is with this kind of wage differential, it is difficult to supervise all our borders.
Mexicans and Central Americans are particularly common in the roofing trade. My neighbor had a new roof. I spoke to both the Mexicans and the US, skilled roofer. The Mexicans and others were paid 10$ an hour with $15 for o.t.
Anecdotal, but, I suspect, more common in this particular trade. Incidentally, I asked why he didn’t hire HS and college students; his reply, “you must be kidding...no way are they going to do heavy labor, on a roof in the 90 degree sun.” (paraphrased)

I worked as a roof-loader in CA, when I wore a younger man’s clothes, and I’m not Mexican. It’s hard work, but I was paid a fair wage.
I just had some masonry work done and insisted that the contractor assure me the workers were Americans. I could have had it done cheaper but wanted it done right.
I tried to watch your boy, but it looked to me like he was being dubbed since his lips and words didn’t sync. Karl Rove is wrong, and so are you.
And your thread blows.

Tell that to the thousands of our kids in Iraq, Afghanistan and who knows where else. He sounds a bit like McCain.

Shrink, no one who has been out of his room in the last decade believes that. Illegal Mexicans are doing real construction work and getting paid real money. Less, of course, than an American with benefits would get.... but good money nonetheless.
This is work that would, should, and could be done by any number of people whose presence in the country is legal.
