Two potential heavyweight candidates in the race to replace Rep. Vito Fossella (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn) in the House of Representatives have withdrawn their names from consideration.
GOP District Attorney Daniel Donovan and state Sen. Diane Savino (D-North Shore/Brooklyn) announced today they will not enter the race for the congressional nomination.
In a statement issued by his office, Donovan said, "I feel that at this time, I am best able to serve the people of Staten Island in the position to which they re-elected me by such an overwhelming margin just six months ago, as their District Attorney. Therefore, I am now removing my name for consideration for a candidacy for Congress."
Said Ms. Savino in a statement: "I have decided to seek re-election for the 23rd Senate District and continue the work that I was elected to do for the people of Staten Island and Brooklyn, as well as helping to take the Senate back into the hands of the Democratic Party, so we can usher in a new era of economic opportunity and fairness for one New York, Upstate and Downstate."

Look for more people to make similar announcements before we know who actually is running.
I know D.A. Dan Donovan. He’s a good guy. He would have been a good replacement for the fool Fossella. Diane Savino is a far Lefty Rat. I’m glad she’s not in the race. I hope they come up with a viable Republican candidate. The Democrats are salivating over taking this seat.
If it is Lanza we DON’T HAVE to lose his state senate seat.
Lou Tabaco can move up. If we lose his seat, so what? The rat has a 106 seats in the assembly anyway.
Is Lou Tabaco a state Assemblyman?
