I’m sipping whiskey for the fourth straight night in Denver, while I and the Libertarians sit in stunned amazement.

The Libertarian party (LP) has gone mainstream. They have developed creeping respectability. They may soon risk becoming boring.

Not that their convention was boring. Far from it. Being the completely anal retentive ideological purists they are, the seeming invasion from ex-Republicans (Bob Barr) and ex-Democrats (Mike Gravel) made for tense conversations, endless hand wringing, and a lot of late night power drinking as many LP members came to terms with the Gawd awful decision they faced.

....

52% of Republicans and Democrats think the LP should be in the presidential debate.

...

I spoke with many new LP members over the weekend and all came from either the Republican or Democrat camps. They all felt abandoned by their parties.

Bob Barr collaborated with the aclu and Mike Gravel wants 'gays' to be foxhole buddies.

Yeah right, sign me up. /sarc

If Barr has really gone pro-abortion and pro-marijuana, let’s hope he will actually take some leftists from Obama. Everyone seems to think he will steal votes from McCain, but I don’t think that’s a given.

Unfortunately, the concept of liberty in this country is completely done.

Left has met right when it comes to people control.

Barr has not changed on abortion. From the Inquirer, he's pro-life (thinks the issue should be decided by the state) and on marijuana, thinks it is a state issue.

As long as the Libertarians have the same position on defending America as Jimmy Carter they are doomed to Keith Olbermann like support.

Thanks for the link. I had previously thought Barr would be adopting the Libertarian platform on abortion and illegal drugs. If that is not the case, then McCain could have certainly lose some votes to him.

IMHO these positions make him a libertarian maverick . But where are the real libertarians gonna go? Are they gonna elect Ralph Nader third place? A vote for Baldwin is a vote for Nader. This sounds familiar all the sudden...

One cannot be “prolife” if he thinks “the issue” can be “settled” by “each” state.

That may be “states’ rights” orientation but not “prolife” for that dooms millions more to slaughter forever. The American people are for the murder of “inconvenient” life.

Silly me. I thought they made him a politician who has read the 10th amendment.

But where are the real libertarians gonna go? Are they gonna elect Ralph Nader third place?

Before anything else Libertarians are rabidly anti-socialist! Ralph Nader should fear for his safety if he ever found himself among a group of Libertarians.

By the way, Nader leads the Green Party myrmidons.

A Libertarian does not view politics along the traditional left - right axis. A more accurate way to identify political orientation is the David Nolan Chart, named for its creator.

Advocates for Self-Government, run by Sharon and Jimmy Harris distributes the Nolan Quiz. You can see above, that a Green or Socialist will plot along the lower left axis. A Fascist will graph on the lower right.

Yeh? And what does the Hon. Bob “I Was A real Conservative” Barr say about illegal aliens today? Does he say, “It’s not a Fed. government problem”? Does he say, “Let the States deal with it”? Does he stick to the infamous Libertarian mantel of “laissez faire”/”It’s someone else’s problem”?
