Graham says Obama, McCain should visit Iraq together
The Hill ^ | 5/25/08 | Klaus Marre

Posted on 05/25/2008 5:39:00 PM PDT by mdittmar

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday suggested that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) and Democratic front-runner Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) should visit Iraq together ahead of the election.

“I think it would be good for the country because the next president is going to have to deal with Iraq,” Graham said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

Graham is one of McCain’s staunchest supporters in the Senate and an early backer of his presidential bid. Noting that Obama has not visited Iraq since 2006, Graham argued that a visit to the country might change the Illinois senator’s opinions.

“So much has happened since 2006 on the ground. It’s been extraordinary,” Graham said, adding, “I think if he would look at what’s happened in Iraq, talk to General [David] Petraeus and [Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki], I think he would have a different view of what you need to do next.”

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), an important Obama ally, said in response to the proposal that he is “not going to suggest what Senator Obama's schedule or Senator McCain's schedule is going to be in the remaining few months before the November election.”

I don’t mind if Hussein goes to Iraq. What would bother me would be his coming back.

Lindsey Graham—another huge disappointment.

What a ridiculous proposition.

The quality of US Senators is appalling low.

I will ignore discussing the suggestion itself to make the comment that he actually is suggesting that if Obama would go, he would see there is a lot of progress and improvement going on there.

Quite a shocking statement by Graham since he is such a slippery liberal.

Sure thing Goober. Fantastic idea. When they get back they can just keep campaigning together. Two can campaign cheaper than one. And the RINO relic has already said that Barry’s Uncle Jeremiah is off limits. Don’t just reach across the aisle. But when you do, hold hands, and go around the country campaigning hand in hand. Goober is a putz if ever there was one. What an embarrassment to the state of South Carolina.

I think Sen. Lindsey Graham should get married.

Never happen...Lindsay could never make a selection of what style wedding gown would go good with his lite loafers.

“I think if he would look at what’s happened in Iraq, talk to General [David] Petraeus and [Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki], I think he would have a different view of what you need to do next.”

General Patraeus, appeared before a senate committee to give senator Obama a over view of Iraq....I don't think he needs a trip half way around the world to get a better picture.

If you need a date Lindsey, ask him to dinner not to Iraq for a quick weekend get-a-way.

Graham says Obama, McCain should visit Iraq together

What in the world is he thinking? What possible good would this do? Would it promote one candidate over the other, or just show how bipartisan both candidates can, or may be? Or would this proposal help cinch a spot for Lindsey as a VP running mate and, perhaps, be invited to McCain's ranch for the Independence Day barbecue? Or does this suggestion show just how disconnected Ms. Graham is from polical reality, and, as such, his constituency?
