What Democrats About Eafch Other
Vanity | Michael P. Tremoglie

( The following piece I wrote for the Philadelphia Bulletin was rejected by the editor as being too inflammatory. Tell me what you think.)

For years the American public has been treated to a steady diet of accusations by liberals and Democrats claiming Republicans and conservatives are mean-spirited and hate-filled.

The most frequent allegation is that Republicans/conservatives are racist, sexist, homophobes. The next most frequent is Nazi. Number three is the portrayal of Republicans/conservatives as wealthy people purposely starving poor people to enrich themselves.

Now, to borrow a phrase, the chickens have come home to roost. The 2008 Democratic Party presidential primary campaign has exposed the Democrats as the kakistocratic, mean-spirited, venom-spewers they are.

There has been one incident after another of Democrats using the politics of personal destruction – hurling racially tinged and other similar comments at each other. The following are statements by liberals and Democrats about other Democrats during this campaign:

Democrat Senator Joe Biden referred to Obama as a “clean” black man.

Time magazine published an article titled, “Is Obama Black Enough?”

A Los Angeles Times column referred to Obama has a “Magic Negro.”

Democrat Al Sharpton claimed Obama was a candidate driven by white leadership (according to a New York Post article).

A New York Daily News column about Obama was titled, “What Obama Isn't: Black Like Me.”

The liberal Salon.com contained an article titled, “Barack Obama would be the great black hope in the next presidential race -- if he were actually black.” The leftwing The New Republic wrote that Obama was a “good” black who “has no obvious ties to Jackson/Sharpton style ‘“bad”’ blacks.”

Hillary Clinton attempted to diminish the efforts of Martin Luther King Jr. in the civil rights movement.

Bill Shaheen, chairman of Clinton’s New Hampshire campaign mentioned Obama’s past drug use during an interview.

Three Clinton Iowa campaign volunteers forwarded an e-mail alleging that Barack Obama is a Muslim who plans on “destroying the U.S. from the inside out.”

Former Democrat Congresswoman, 1984 Vice Presidential candidate, and Hillary Clinton campaign adviser, Geraldine Ferraro said about the candidacy of Barack Obama: “If Obama was a white man he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman of any color, he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in this concept.”

Ferraro about Obama comparing her to his pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright: “To equate what I said with what this racist bigot (Wright) has said from the pulpit is unbelievable.”

Senior Obama campaign advisor Samantha Power described Hillary Clinton as a monster. Retired Gen. Merrill "Tony" McPeak, a former Air Force chief of staff and co-chairman of Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign compared former President Bill Clinton to Joseph McCarthy.

Most recently, during Holy Week, the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus, James Carville, a Clinton campaign adviser and former CNN host, said this about New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson’s endorsement of Barack Obama, “Mr. Richardson's endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing if appropriate is ironic.”

All of which proves that Democrats are the smear specialists. They are the sultans of slander, the viceroys of vilification, and the emperors of excoriation.

When liberals, Democrats, and their mainstream media allies lament about Vietnam veterans disparaging one of their own who they feel betrayed them, as John O’Neil and others did with John Kerry during the 2004 presidential election, they conveniently forgot how the World War II military service of George H.W. Bush and Bob Dole was disparaged by the Democratic Party’s well oiled defamation merchants.

Democratic Party journalists like Washington Post columnist (and former Naderite) E.J. Dionne whined about the impugning Kerry’s Vietnam War record. Yet, Dionne and others of his ilk never once voiced objections to the Clinton’s smear of Bob Dole’s war record, eight years earlier, during the 1996 election. An August 1996 article in the leftwing The Nation magazine accused Dole of self-inflicted wounds.

Nor did liberal Democrats complain about Team Clinton’s trashing of George H.W. Bush’s military service. The scurrilous accusation that he President Bush parachuted to safety and left his comrades to die in an airplane that was shot down by the Japanese was unconscionable even for Democrats.

What is even worse than their finely tuned defamation campaigns is that your average liberal is clueless (is this a redundancy?) about it. They claim no recollection of Democrats questioning or insulting Bob Dole’s military service. They emphatically state that Democrats did and would not do such a thing.

As the general election presidential campaign approaches and Democrat opposes Republican, there will be references to the Republican smear machine. Just recall how adept Democrats were at smearing each other.

"A kakistocracy being a governing public policy structure of the least qualified or most unprincipled people." -- from http://blazingcatfur.blogspot.com/2008/05/incompetent-propaganda-from-chrc.html. (My online dictionary failed me.)

I'm guessing the etymology is "caca" + "-ocracy": government by s***.

"Kakistocratic"

government by the worst persons; a form of government in which the worst persons are in power.

Just in case anyone wanted to know.

I wonder if just seeing all the Dem references to Obama’s blackness in one place was too much? I was stunned by the list, and I’ve followed this season closely. It is something to see all of them in one place.
