Does Autodesk even use a hardware key on any of their products? I’ve got a copy of Autocad 2000 and there’s no security whatsoever. Every other CAD and CAM system I’ve used had a USB or Parallel dongle.
The reason I ask is because with the current system I’m using (Esprit), the USB key is their property and I have to give it back if they ask for it (I have a dealer license, I’m not sure if the general license is that way or not).
I have no idea.
I'm not sure you can buy a single copy of Autocad anymore. When they switched over to desktop products about 7 or 8 years ago they switched to a subscription service which includes upgrades every year.
They no longer issue a hardware key with the product, after you install you have to request one on-line to activate the program.
I think your ACAD 2000 may be the last year of the single use license but I could be wrong.
I don’t know about single installs but, if I copy my dwgs onto my hard drive, unplug my lap top from the network and try to use ACAD (+ third party software) at home, without first ‘checking out’ a liscence it will not allow me to open any dwgs. Caught me a few times, had to drive all the friggin’ way back to the office and do it all over again.
