220 000 condoms off to Myanmar

Bangkok - The United Nations will send nearly a quarter of a million condoms into cyclone-hit Myanmar to help needy survivors with no access to contraceptives, a UN official says.

So far, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) said it had sent 72 800 condoms to survivors struggling to maintain their family planning after the storm hit in early May.

A total of 218 400 condoms would be delivered, UNFPA aid advisor Chaiyos Kunanusont said.

"We don't want regular use of contraception disrupted. An emergency usually damages the health system, so people don't have access to condoms and contraceptives," said Chaiyos.

"I think, involves whether they would use the condoms, or it’s just an empty gesture."

They can always fill them with drinking water.

Birth control is a “dispicably evil idea?”

Get real. There are reasons that the resources of the world seem to be growing shorter in supply. Economic growth in the third world is the most significant reason, and it would be a whole lot less significant if the demand for more goods in China was coming from just a few hundred million people instead of 1.1 billion people. That’s just a fact of economics, which can’t be denied.

We can either do this the easy way by sending them birth control, or we can wait until they are slitting each others throats, as well as our own, because there are too many of them, too few resources to support them.

If the condoms work as well as the UN does then there would be no need to send them as they wouldn’t prevent a darn thing.

Condoms?

Any chance the UN meant this as a subliminal message for what the citizens are receiving from their tyrant government?

There is no question though that runaway population growth in the third world is causing problems here in the US.

Nonsense. The problem isn't excess population, but stupid government policies (both here and abroad).

The world consumption of oil, for example, would be a lot less if there were fewer people consuming it.

Unlikely. If the world population were smaller, there would simply be a smaller market (less demand, less pressure for exploration, etc.).

A lot of the illegal immigration problem in the US was brought on by Mexico’s population problems.

This is more baseless conjecture. The illegal immigration problem in the US was brought about by bad policies from the time of FDR via the Bracero program. The pressures on the Mexican side that allowed the problem to continue were due to incompetence and corruption of their federal government. It continued on our side due to a federal government that refused to do its job to protect our borders because it thought we needed the extra labor to sustain economic growth.

I think the Muslim world in particular needs birth control.

What the Muslim world needs is to change religions.

We can’t ignore this problem, unfortunately.

The "problem" is people like you. Your kind caused most of the misery in the 20th century.

Birth control is “misery?” You’re delusional. There is going to be a whole lot more misery than that, if we continue to grow the world population at the rate that it’s been growing.

No food, no safe water, no housing, no medicine and the UN sends the cyclone victims condoms. The UN is worthless, corrupt and venal.

No, YOU are. Your kind. Those of you who think that you know what is best for other people, and are willing to use the force of government to impose your will on others. The operative word in population control is CONTROL.

You’re delusional.

You're evil. Your kind murdered millions in the 20th century. Because sooner or later when your policies don't turn out the way you think they should, you turn to rounding up people who don't think the way you do and putting them in death camps.

There is going to be a whole lot more misery than that, if we continue to grow the world population at the rate that it’s been growing.

In addition to being evil, you are also an idiot. Humans are not a waste product; they are a resource. One of the few consistent axioms of history is that larger populations result in greater wealth.

Give me a break. Those who espouse population control always want to control new members of the population but wring their hands over lose of life in natural disasters

I am so tired of their never being any solution except to kill all the babies or make sure they never exist. What do you think will happen to the population if everyone faithfully uses the provided condoms.

Have you read The Population Bomb? Sounds like you would like it. It explains the population crisis very nicely. Of course, the book was wrong as history shows, but the theory is still being pushed.

“Those of you who think that you know what is best for other people”

I’m not proposing to force them to use them. Just make them available. Let me just point out that doing nothing about this has not been such a blissful policy. My suspicions are that in the coming years, things are going to get a lot uglier. You’re going to see “survival of the fittest” practiced on a massive scale. Having babies that you can’t feed and can’t support isn’t such a good idea.

Which clearly explains the massive wealth going on in places like Indonesia (240 million people, $3,400 per capita GDP), Pakistan (170 million people, $2,600 per capita GDP), Nigeria (140 million people, $2,200 per capita GDP), India (1.15 billion people, $2,700 per capita GDP), etc.

Breeding em when you can't feed em is the surest way to poverty and social unrest we've come up with yet.

Then pay for it out of your own pocket.

My suspicions are that in the coming years, things are going to get a lot uglier.

If they do, it certainly won't be because of population increases. Your stale ideas have been repeated throughout history from the time of Malthus. History has always proved them wrong.

You’re crazy.

Unlikely, but that's irrelevant to the fact that your philosophy is barely distinguishable from the worst mass murderers in human history. The cause of nearly all the misery in the 20th century for human kind were people who think the same way you do.

Your kind does not solve problems; you cause them.

These places merely prove the point that more people equals more wealth. In every country where the population is increasing, so is the standard of living. Some of them (such as India) are even reaching a point where a viable middle class is emerging.

Some of you don't seem to understand that wealth is not something that is to be distributed, it is something that is generated. And the thing that generates it is people. All factors being equal, more people equals more wealth. The reason these countries lack the wealth of the US is that other factors are NOT equal. Many places lack the rule of law, have deranged and oppressive government policies, lower initial capital for investments, etc.

The idea of encouraging use of condoms is “barely distinguishable” from mass murder? You need to think that thru a little more.

Your kind does far more than "encouraging" condom use. You interfere in other people's culture in an attempt to destroy their traditional moralities. You indoctrinate their children. You make people who are morally opposed to your plans pay for them, through the threat of government force via taxation. Government condom distribution is just one small example of the many ways that your kind interferes in the lives of other people. You and your kind do the same with food aid, trade barriers, tax policies, welfare programs, and just about every other far-reaching nanny state scheme you come up with.

The fact is, the ideas you and your kind espouse HAVE murdered people; sometimes quickly and sometimes via slow starvation. Just because you didn't personally pull the trigger makes it no less your fault.

Philosophically, you are a murderer.
