WASHINGTON The House quickly rejected George W. Bush's veto Wednesday of a $290 billion farm bill and the Senate was poised to follow suit, a stark rebuke of a president overridden only once in his two terms.
Only hours before the House's 316-108 vote, Bush had vetoed the five-year measure, saying it was too expensive and gave too much money to wealthy farmers when farm incomes are high.
The legislation includes election-year subsidies for farmers and food stamps for the poor spending that lawmakers could promote when they are back in their districts over the Memorial Day weekend.
The Senate could turn to the bill as soon as Wednesday night; there were expected to be enough votes to overturn the veto.

We need to send a message to the party that this kind of legislation, which is nothing more than plunder of the taxpayer, will not be tolerated.

so the ethanol is still there. Great. Just great
Thanks for that. I really don't know much about this bill but now I see. Welfare raise attached to a farm welfare bill. Well most of the farmers I have known work their A$$es off. So I don't begrudge them all that much.
Republicans apparently like being in the minority and even want a much smaller majority. Idiots.
LOL! I just read that. As others on the post put it: Ha Ha!
And another 20% goes to CRP and conservation programs,
you know the greenie crap. \Along with 70% food stamps
that is 90% farms don’t get as most of conservation related
stuff like CRP goes to those who don’t farm anymore.
And the so-called increase in sudsidies is just raising
support levels if prices crash, as the prices now
are above support levels.Ed
RINO’s and Rats working together to pass the pork bill.
