Politics: Barack Obama puts the little lady off-limits, imposing a new double standard on presidential politics. At least Hillary didn't say, "Lay off my husband."

Whatever else we've thought about Michelle Obama, we've never doubted that this outspoken Princeton- and Harvard-trained lawyer was capable of fighting her own battles. But now her husband says no. Pick on her and you're going to have to deal with him. As he told "Good Morning America" this week, "Lay off my wife."

How manly. How chivalrous. How hypocritical.

Both spouses of the leading Democratic contenders have been active on the stump, occasionally making news. Bill Clinton riled up the Obama camp early on with comments such as his claim that Obama's anti-war record was more "fairy tale" than reality. Obama's minions jumped all over him for once comparing Obama with Jesse Jackson. Clinton can give as good as he gets, and no one treats him as an innocent victim. That's how it should be.

Michelle Obama has stirred up some criticism, too. Republicans have not let her forget that she told a couple of audiences in February that she was "proud of my country" for the first time in her adult life. That line reinforced the impression that, for someone who has achieved so much, she is strangely disaffected and angry. "America's Unhappiest Millionaire," she was dubbed in National Review after one of her grim stump speeches.

I WISH I had been offered the advantages from which she benefited. She has said she was surprised to get into Princeton with her test scores. I guess she wasn’t thinking about the affirmative action, again, from which she greatly benefited.

Really. I wrote a Princeton thesis in 1977. Could do much better work now, but if I had produced the mess that she submitted, I'm sure my advisor would have flunked me.

If what I've seen of her thesis had been submitted as a term paper at my rural Oklahoma high school in the fifties, she wouldn't have passed.

Our teachers actually graded on grammar, spelling and punctuation. I doubt there would've been much credit given for the content, either.

It's a very poor performance. I can't think of anybody I knew at the time who produced anything that bad. It's just deficient in every way - style, content, spelling, etc.

It was a bit harder in those days to correct typos and misspellings, because we didn't even have IBM Selectrics yet, no computers, nothing but correction fluid which always flaked off after awhile. But it looks like she didn't even try!

Time for a reality check, Hussein ObamaMessiaHamas:

1. Hussein ObamaMessiaHamas, when you run for the highest office in America, you don’t get to set the tone of the discussions and set the limits about what is said about you, and you have an open field with your opponents to say any lies you want to say.

2. When you send your millionaire, loud mouthed, Black racist, spoiled America Hating B$tch of a wife out to knock America, the other candidates and to campaign for you. She becomes a legitimate target of how America feels about her and her bitter comments about America.

3. Last but not least, when you say this bs about leaving your Bitter wife out of the campaign, there must be something really bad that she has done. So are you trying to preempt the disclosure of what else she has done, said or worse?

Put some ice on it and stop your whining, you thin skinned elitist bastard!
