This ruling can only help if McCain and the Republican party stand up and defend traditional marriage and make it a campaign issue. Sadly, there is no evidence that either is intelligent enough to do so.

In fact, it is this issue that is the key beating back the socially-conservative Democrats that keep winning Republican seats in the south. Only social conservatism can win back those seats and prevent the GOP from losing several more in southern states.

No it WILL help McCain because of the referendum in Nov. That will as it always has, bring people to the polls who would not ordinarily turnout.
