We Are Making Progress in Iraq
Wall Street Journal ^ | May 20, 2008 | NECHIRVAN BARZANI

I don't think the Wall Street Journal wants their stuff copied so here is the link:

While the media offers mostly images of violence, and many Americans have grown weary of the war in Iraq, I bring hopeful news to Washington this week as I meet with the administration and members of Congress.

nope.

the war is not popular among even republicans.

i live in a republican u.s. congressional and state assembly district

and the “support our troops” stickers are almost all gone.

thank our president for not managing his media persona.

president bush could have had bi-weekly discussions and spin control.

but he chose to let the democrap media blemish himself, cheney, rumsfeld, the military commanders, libby, ad infinitum.

that’s what the media does folks—they destroy the opposition by ad hominem attacks.

Attention span is not a virtue common to this land. Especially on a war that's taken longer than WW2 and hasn't produced spectacular results that are film-worthy. The quelling of an insurgency, the public works betterment, the removal of terror from the head of Iraq, isn't sexy enough. That's just it.

For anyone to pay attention, giant missiles and barrels full of bacteria must be captured in a dramatic showdown, then paraded in the streets. THAT’ll capture some attention/

I wonder if people realize why we have not had problems in the Kurdistan region as we have in the Shia and Sunni areas. There’s a simple reason, they had an almost 15 year head start on self determined rule.

This is where education in our country has really failed us. The majority of people even in this country do not realize that even though self government is the natural state of mankind, when you have been ruled by dictators for as long as anyone living can remember, you have been programmed to something that is not natural. It takes time to get back to the natural state of mankind. It does not happen overnight.

I can understand why even conservatives have been against this war. I would have felt the same way before 9/11. That day changed a lot for me. No more are we as insulated from the worlds problems as I thought we were. I hate that we have to do nation building, but if we have to do it to defeat this enemy, then so be it. Just as we participated in deprogramming people out of facism, we must now deprogram people out of Islamo facism.

It is sad that many Republicans have fallen for the Democrat appeasement of this war.

I can understand Democrats being Benidict Arnalds but there is no excuse for Republicans.

"I live in a republican u.s. congressional and state assembly district and the “support our troops” stickers are almost all gone."

I don't want to insult you. However if the "Support Our Troop" stickers and magnets on automobiles in your town are almost gone, you have a serious problem. I am a Democrat and have had yellow and Red/White/Blue magnets on my cars since 2003. My town is a mixture of Republicans and Democrats. I am proud to say that many of the town folks have these stickers on vehicles in my town.

Blame the President all you want. That has nothing to do with ordinary citizens supporting the troops. My neighbors carry these bumper stickers and magnets regardless of how popular GWB is.

Have we reached a point in this country where we are contemplating not showing overt respect for the young men and women serving in IRAQ because the war is not politically popular.

If so, we are doing no better than the citizens of this country did 4 decades ago to our Vets from the Vietnam War Era. That would be a big mistake IMHO.

i have not a serious problem.

the fact is, like or not,

very few americans now support the iraq war.

and it is the president’s fault; he could have regularly informed the american people

on the war and invited our support, but he did not.

That only works when you have the lame brain cowardly liberal MSM in your corner. Any good news gets short shrift, bad news gets page one ... sometimes for weeks like Abu Gharib. Early last week news came out of Somalia that a really bad guy warlord had been killed ... the AP/NY Times story in the last paragraph stated so called 'experts', not identified of course, said this would only make the warlords followers angrier with us. Typical liberal logic ... don't hurt them, it'll only make them madder.

we lost the u.s. congress in 2006

Look, pal ... you obviously don't get it ... any pubbie President is at a distinct disadvantage. Getting the word out, positive, won't happen ... so don't denigrate Bush for not doing so ... he tried, and against unsurmountable odds ... he may have come up short. So, my response to you ... never mind. You aren't worthy of one ...

“Why are you here? “

Because I am an American who believes in the War on Terror and the importance of winning the battle of that war currently being fought heroically by the US and our Allies (including the Iraqi forces) in Iraq.

Being a Democrat does not mean you are a traitor just like bring a Republican does not make you a patriot. I have voted for Reagan, Bush 41 and Bush 43 twice each and intend to support McCain this time around.

I am still a Democrat because I live in the Socialist State of New Jersey. There is an old saying I heard from a defector from the Soviet Union. It goes like this.

"When you live under Communist Rule it is always a good idea if someone in the household belongs to the Party"

My wife is the Republican.

You like-e speach-e ?
