“giving up all tax revenues”
GMTA! Thanks for the ping.
Smokers should demand tax vouchers.
Been there...
I am looking out toward the mountain that looms above my cabin. The clouds are swirling among the trees up there, and frenzied from the bluster. The river is raging now, but is really just a trout stream where I live. I drive 23+ miles for groceries... and will head for the coast of NC later this summer. I (almost) full time in an RV nowadays.
Rain has started again...and I'm going to light the grill. I bought a whole NY strip for $3.99 pp, and I have 12 more steaks, after this one. Life is good (as long as the scotch lasts!)...
Says Weyers, "The biggest frustration in the workplace is the cost of healthcare. Medical plans weren't established to pay for unhealthy lifestyles."
Weyers admits he never really measured how much the smokers he once employed cost him and acknowledged it may not have cost him anything.

Just because the Government(various county, city and state)has done it doesn't make it legal. Witness the many firearms laws that violate the 2nd amendment. Your point about eliminating much of the work pool is very valid and an excellent observation.
Local news yesterday described a question on the Sarasota employee application: Have you been tobacco free (e.g. cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco) for the past 12 months?
A lady with whom I work is hurtly badly now. Tomorrow is the funeral for her father-in-law who was killed by a 4th time offender drunk driver (driving without a license, of course). Her sister-in-law also sustained brain damage and multiple fractures over her body. Since smoking was banned in public places, maybe the consumption of alochol should also be limited to home use only. I’ll say it again: I’d rather be around a smoker any day than someone who is drinking. We have to stop picking and choosing ills and be consistent and honest.
I absolutely agree with you, however they have been getting away with it because no one has challenged the policies. A similar policy implmented by a private company (Scott's/Miracle Gro) is being challenged in, I believe, Massachusetts. It will be interesting to see that outcome.
I agree with you in regard to the firearms laws, though I do not believe many folks would be willing to equate this policy with those laws/policies.
That was beautiful.
This is disgusting. Sometimes I’m embarrassed to be from/live in Florida. As long as cigarettes are sold, you should be able to smoke them without fear of being shunned in the job market. Smoking should be a CHOICE, just like drinking alcohol. Or eating junk food. Or any other thing you do each day, without Big Brother looking over your shoulder. Shudder.
We’re not saying you can’t be a jew, we’re not going out and telling the public that you cannot be a jew, we’re just saying that if you are a jew, you are going to be disqualified in the application process of Sarasota County Government
There...fixed it..
Discrimination is discrimination...no two ways about it...
He probably wouldn't last too long either. There are just enough gasoline-shorted, nicotine-deprived, hypoglycemic and sexually frustrated people in the world....who would take him out on a bad day. *chuckle*
in the 70s, smokers were still considered human beings. They didn’t start to turn into something lower than child molesters until the 80s (when the yuppies started to take over). Wasn’t this tried in Florida once before? Seems to me it was (by a sheriff or DA, perhaps), and it wound up being overturned a few years later.

There’s the answer in a nutshell.Another boomer who thinks he will live forever. The greediest, most self-centered, most selfish generation that ever polluted this country. I’ve said for years, if World War 2 were fought today-we’d lose. A lot of folks laugh at me when I say that. I’m dead serious. Instead of sticking together, We’d be ratting on each other to the enemy.A lot of Americans today would idolize health-conscious Hitler with his master race ideas.
I won’t be laughing at you, Ghost. I whole-heartedly agree with what you’ve posted. :-)
I call that facism, don’t you? The guts of this person. Hope all if well with you, my dear.
You are correct, and it was both.
Hey, he's a private employer and I respect his right to call the shots.
On the other hand, it does lift the veil on the phony "increased health care costs for smokers" argument.
I'm doing fine, thank you dear; and I hope the same is true for you.
