Carter left a mess for Pres. Reagan to clean up. And the damage was quite extensive.

A President b. Hussein Obama may put us in such a state that we will not be able to clean up the mess he will create.

Carter will eventually be relegated to one of the worse presidents to ever hold office; probably rated ahead of Franklin Pierce, Millard Fillmore, James Buchanan and Warren G. Harding but below even Richard Nixon, Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. There is really nothing he produced or left in legacy; save the Israeli/Egyptian peace accord which is nebulous as best given the overall situation of the Middle East and its future, and the fact that it led to the assassination of Anwar Sadat and the political ostracizing of Menachen Begin.

I always wonder how Jimmy Carter ever graduated from the US Naval Academy.

While in training to be a nuclear engineer, he cops a hardship and resigns. I have to think his senior officers may have advised him to "take the hardship 'cause you won't cut it in engineering". So he goes back to Plains and screws up the peanut farm.

To witness him laying a wreath at the tomb of Yasser Arafat, then schmoozing with Hamas in Damascus

Carter must be out of his mind, and is a Democrat. Why then, pray tell, do the Jewish people vote Democratic? Do they have a collective death wish?

Obama is the second term of Jimmy Carter.

Saying Jimmy Carter was responsible for the fall of the Shah is like saying that George HW Bush was responsible for winning the Cold War.

Both events happened on thier watch as President. Both events could have gone differently at the time. But, both were the result of years of history and almost certainly would have happened eventually.

I reject this statement about the Shah and Jimmah as much as I would reject a statement about the Cold War and Bush 1.
