This isn’t freaking funny and we mock his draw at our own peril.

How about one legal citizen one vote ?

I haven't completely lost my faith in ordinary Americans, yet. This guy may seem to many to be the "Messiah" at this point--but he does have feet of clay like the rest of us. I think this will be evident quite soon, and that people will turn from him.

So far, his appearances have been very close to revival meetings of old---but once they were over, people went right back to their "sinning" ways.

I just refuse to live my life in despair, like so many freepers seem to be doing these days. Just stay locked and loaded and keep on the alert.

"a military coup may be the only thing that can save us."

Indeed. Here's something I wrote just about a year ago. I didn't save the link as to exactly which thread it was posted to, or I would posted that link here. Instead, I'll reproduce my earlier post for your comments:
===============

I’m afraid you are right. The media will spin terror attacks in the US as “blowback” from “Bush’s illegal war” that never would be happening if we’d just left Saddam in place.

They're going to have a hard time spinning, after the cores of several major cities are destroyed by nuclear bombs. At that point there will be nothing left to spin. The "truth" about the enemy we are up against (which Ed Koch understands, as explained in his article) will be impossible to deny.

It certainly looks like the Democrats are going to end up in full control of the Congress and the Presidency for the next four to eight years, starting in '09. This will give them titular "control" of the military as well - a military which will become increasingly disheartened and demoralized.

If the country is attacked on a catastrophic level with the Democrats in control, I predict you will see the 'rats do, literally, _next to nothing_ to respond and retaliate. They have become intellectually and morally incapable of "fighting back", because to them, the REAL "enemy" is America itself. For them, it would be "wrong" to be so judgemental that they would attack another nation (for the sake of argument, Iran, for supplying the terrorists with the weapons they will most surely use). Really, who is Nancy Pelosi going to declare war on? (other than US, that is)

For this reason, if events combine a nuclear attack on America during Democratic rule, the visibile and obvious helplessness of the Democrats to react, combined with a military that longs to protect and defend America but has its hands tied by a Democratic Congress/Presidency, could presage a modern "Seven Days In May" scenario: a miltiary takeover of the government of the United States.

And I also predict that what's left of "conservative America" would not only do little to oppose such a takeover in such dark circumstances - they would actually welcome it, as the Right welcomed General Pinochet in Chile when the excesses of Allende threatened to tear the country to pieces.

By then, we may have reached the point where the only pathway to restore America will be to surrender control to a group willing to take the necessary steps to right the ship of state, in the face of electoral/legislative helplessness, division, and gridlock.

I guess to think this much is to be blasphemous. But consider: look at Chile during Allende, and Chile today. Could that nation have arrived where it is now, if the military had NOT intervened?

Such things will never happen here, right? Right?

- John

One could say Hitler wasn’t out to destroy Germany per se whereas Obama’s apparent goal is to destroy America as we know it and turn it into a third-world country run by radical wackjobs.

The fact that you have to ask..."Please, what?" is a pretty good clue.

Your comparison of Obama to Mugabe....is so over the top it's not funny. It places you in the same category with the Dems that accuse GWB of murder and the like....

What's your real agenda here?

Indeed, as is the news video linked in #188 above.

You know, after I posted, I realize it's not so scary after all. The whole thing was staged. It was an event, calculated to make for dramatic photos of crowds.

Pardon me, but it's all bullshit, just like everything else about Barack Obama.

It would be great if they played that as an introduction to Obama's concert. Anyone know??

Maybe they can help Obamination talk Putin into getting rid of all their nukes! LOL He has promised to sit down with Putty and tell him to get rid of his nukes and we'll get rid of ours. We won't weaponize space and we won't use a missle defense system. And we thought Bill Clinton destroyed the military. Just wait until Obama drama gets through with it.

Speaking of popular demagogues and such Caroline B. Glick in Obama's unique appeasement style compares Obama to HL Mencken.:
IN MANY ways, Obama and his allies call to mind the influential American newspaperman H.L. Mencken. In the 1920s and early 1930s, Mencken was the most influential writer in the US. He was an anti-Christian and anti-Semitic agnostic, a supporter of Germany during World War I, and a fierce opponent of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal. He also opposed American participation in World War II.

In his biography of Mencken, The Skeptic: A Life of H.L. Mencken, Terry Teachout argues that the reason Mencken did not think it was worth fighting Hitler's Germany was because Mencken simply couldn't accept the existence of evil. He could see no moral distinction between Roosevelt, who he despised, and Adolf Hitler who he considered "a boob."

There are strong echoes of Mencken's moral blindness to Hitler's evil in the contemporary Left's refusal to understand the nature of the threat posed by Iran and its terror proxies. And Bush made this clear in his speech to the Knesset when he said, "There are good and decent people who cannot fathom the darkness in these men and try to explain away their words. It's natural, but it is deadly wrong."

Obama's supporters seek to silence these echoes by pointing to Obama's life story as Obama told it in his two autobiographies, Dreams From my Father and The Audacity of Hope. His supporters‚ argue that since his life story is unique, his decision to appease the Iranians is uniquely wise. Yet the most interesting aspect of his life story is how little is actually known about it.

As the New York Times noted in an article Sunday about Obama's career as an autobiographer, "In the introduction [of Dreams from my Father], Mr. Obama acknowledged his use of pseudonyms, composite characters, approximated dialogue and events out of chronological order."

That is, the man who is supposedly uniquely qualified to appease, adopted an attitude of indignation at Bush's condemnation of those who seek to cut deals with evil men, is also rather cavalier about facts. Justifying Obama's fast and loose treatment of the truth about his past, his editor Deborah Baker explained that Obama's attitude was more important than the facts or, in her words, "The fact is, it all had a sort of larger truth going on that you couldn't make up."

LIKE HIS life story, Obama's policies are not based on facts, but on his attitude. And his attitude, like Mencken's in the 1930s, is based on a naïve and arrogant belief that the worst thing that can happen is to have someone who talks about evil in the White House.

Peter Osnos, Obama's former publisher told the Times that Obama's meteoric rise to the pinnacle of politics is due in large part to his gift as a storyteller. In his words, "It's almost all based on these two books, two books not based on a job of prodigious research or risking one's life as a reporter in Iraq. He has written about himself. Being able to take your own life story and turn it into this incredibly lucrative franchise, it's a stunning fact."

Mencken also didn't care so much for getting facts straight, preferring to invent a real-sounding set of made-up "facts" to fit his story line of a narrative. Look up the his 1917 history of bathing and bath tubs hoax -- not only was total fabrication, it was in a more subtle way, highly misanthropic for it had humanity backwards, dirty, uncaring for cleaniness until the very recent modern times. The truth? Civilized man has always spent a considerable amount of effort to be clean and that has included bathing -- way back to the stone ages.

Mencken, as I recall, wasn't the dapper crowd demagogue -- he worked without personal appearance in front of crowds. His approach to feeding the sheeple was through his writing columns and reports.

So Obama has characteristics of both a Coughlin and a Mencken.
