McCain on the Issues - Border Security and Immigration Reform
McCain Website ^

Posted on 05/18/2008 12:17:10 PM PDT by Bob J

Border Security & Immigration Reform

Immigration is one of those challenging issues that touch on many aspects of American life. I have always believed that our border must be secure and that the federal government has utterly failed in its responsibility to ensure that it is secure. If we have learned anything from the recent immigration debate, it is that Americans have little trust that their government will honor a pledge to do the things necessary to make the border secure.

As president, I will secure the border. I will restore the trust Americans should have in the basic competency of their government. A secure border is an essential element of our national security. Tight border security includes not just the entry and exit of people, but also the effective screening of cargo at our ports and other points of entry.

But a secure border will contribute to addressing our immigration problem most effectively if we also:

Recognize the importance of building strong allies in Mexico and Latin America who reject the siren call of authoritarians like Hugo Chavez, support freedom and democracy, and seek strong domestic economies with abundant economic opportunities for their citizens.

Recognize the importance of pro-growth policies -- keeping government spending in check, holding down taxes, and cutting unnecessary regulatory burdens -- so American businesses can hire and pay the best.

Recognize the importance of a flexible labor market to keep employers in business and our economy on top. It should provide skilled Americans and immigrants with opportunity. Our education system should ensure skills for our younger workers, and our retraining and assistance programs for displaced workers must be modernized so they can pursue those opportunities

Recognize the importance of assimilation of our immigrant population, which includes learning English, American history and civics, and respecting the values of a democratic society.

Recognize that America will always be that "shining city upon a hill," a beacon of hope and opportunity for those seeking a better life built on hard work and optimism. Border security and our failed immigration system are more examples of an ailing Washington culture in need of reform to regain the trust of Americans. In too many areas -- from immigration and pork barrel spending to Social Security, health care, energy security and tax relief -- business-as-usual politics prevents addressing the important challenges facing our nation.

““McCain bad, McCain like brown people”.

Bob, you are so obsessed with ‘brown’ you lose sight of everything and resort to lying. You know no one on this forum ever said that or if they did they were gone before anyone read it. At least give FR credit for that, even if you insist 90% of it’s members are bigots.

Do you just enjoy being part of the tiny percentage of the population who are race baiters? We understand how it profits Jesse Jackson, etc. What’s in it for you? Or for McCain for that matter....well, he’s the GOP nominee, I suppose that’s something. What do you get for your consistent trouble besides the joy of making an ass out of yourself?

Thanks for the pings, folks, but this is a hopeless cause. When someone makes decisions and political choices and bears false witness here against good Americans, day after day, based on race there’s no amount of reasoning on this earth that does any good. From what BobJ has said, I have to conclude that most of us just aren’t ‘pure enough’ or ‘brown enough’ to suit him. You’re in the land of mongrels, Bob, better get used to it.

“Religious and racial persecution is moronic at all times, perhaps the most idiotic of human stupidities.” (Harry S. Truman)

No, no, really, it’s pretty much about the stinky brown people.

Hey Bob--half my family happens to be Latino.

YOUR words are offensive.

Well, by all means show him this thread of yours.

I understand Bob J, I ended up for Romney even though I liked Hunter.

Romney wasn’t too conservative either, but I felt he could be so under different circumstances other than being the Governor of Mass.

He was talking right on illegal immigration. I just cannot accept McCain, even if he has an “R” by his name. I don’t hate people who want to vote for him. Still, I am not going to shut up about how irritated I am.

I can’t stand any of these candidates. They all stink. I am going do to what I feel right about this time. I held my nose for Bush. Not all was bad with Bush, except his immigration stance and failure to use the veto pen.

No matter who wins, I will go on and make the best of it. May be tough times ahead, but we will all survive.
Maybe people will get sick of it all and rise up to get rid of the stench in DC.

Enjoy what is left of your evening.

“For what it’s worth, don’t take me too seriously...all in fun.”

So that’s it? THIS is fun for you? Well, at least you’re leaving your family alone while you’re here calling the rest of us racists because we won’t welcome 20 million of your chosen people here illegally. I’m so glad YOU are having fun.
There are some funerals this weekend for American mongrels killed by illegal aliens. I’m sure their surviving family is thrilled that YOU are having fun.

Good night, this conversation is over!

” But don’t get too explicit because I still have to go to church tonight. my priest might not understand.”

Yeah? Ask him to explain the concept of bearing false witness to you and then pray you can break the habit.

Or will your priest be pleased that you accuse good people of the sin of racism when you know it’s not true?

You follow me that closely? I might have to alert the FBI that I have a stalker.

I don't need that many encounters to see you for what you are.

BTW - I never resort to condescension until forced to by ignorant “my way or the highway” types who don't think beyond their spleens.

Interesting, considering you created a new thread and immediately resorted to condescending posts. The facts don't support your version of events, Bob.

Maybe you should recommend to him that he ban me?

By all means, I encourage you to continue down your present path. After reading all the way through this thread, I'm enjoying your meltdown a great deal. Although you're going to have a bad hangover tomorrow morning, that's for sure.

With Obama...or possibly an Obama/Clinton ticket,

I've had a sneaky feeling about these two. I figuered the Clinton's had a 'fix' and this may be it.

These two have been playing rope-a-dope with the media (notice how Obama hasn't been able to close-the-deal- convienent, isn't it?) while she claims the blue states, he can bring the non-white, non-hardworking, non-bitter, non-gun owner, elitist limo liberals to the ticket.

And in shades of yesterday (after the Supers throw it Hillary's way) she offers him the second slot. This time he takes it- with sugarplum fairies and a wife that needs a little more polishing, ready to usher him in in '12 or '16.

A two'fer if ever I saw one coming.

I don’t believe a single word from him.

As I’ve said before, perhaps the only good thing about McCain is that this Election cycle is revealing what the Party doesn’t need, those Big Tent adolescents who never shed their Democrat skin.

And the last few days have most certainly been a week for the record books. I’ve never seen so much propaganda and irrationality from the Dale Carnegie rejects.

But ain't they? The Paultards are model citizens in comparison. Well, except for their believing September the 11th was an inside job, but then again, the McCainiacs can't seem to tell whether it's a knife or a windup key in their backs.

I've got it!

Denial you can believe in!

The denial you deserve!

Besides, now there’s a new problem. How is McCain going to stuff the McCain-Kennedy bill down our throats with Kennedy his good friend Ted in the hospital?

I was wondering the same....first thing I thought of when I heard the news. Maybe I should have been concerned for his health...and it may not be PC to kick someone when they're down...but you aren't going to get any sympathy out of me on the issue of TK....

You’re right, it’s dead-on. And I understand they’re going to stick with it anyway. It used to be so easy to laugh at the nuttiness of the Left, but now ethics compel me to lay off of them. :)

McCain has one of Arnie’s strategists working much of this stuff—Steve Schmidt.

It seems to me that “Change you Deserve” is just another tired slogan that has followed other groups and sayings sabotaging the GOP. The Third Way, the New Majority, Bipartisanship, Postpartisanship. They all seem to mean the same thing: “kick the conservatives to the curb—we don’t care what any of you think or say. Just send money and vote (R)!”

No suprise many have adopted a new mantra: “No more! No mas!”

With all the bull5h!+ MacCain is now peddling, it's clear "The Straight Talk Express" is now on cinder blocks in his front yard.

You got that right-----and judging by their posts here, the McC team is frustrated b/c they bombed with the "message" they figured would gull an important voting bloc----conservatives.

The team figured having Juan say he would "appoint" consevative judges was gonna do the job.

Far from it.

"Saying" he will name conservative judges is chump change compared to what Juan MUST to do to court conservatives. These are our terms:

We demand Juan name conservatives with proven credentials to top positions in his campaign, who are privy to all his campaign strategies.

Juan must lose Hernandez, the Azatlan sucker attached to his campaign.

Juan MUST denounce Reconquista NOW in all print and brodcast media venues.

Then we'll talk.

In politics, perception is everything. McCain better understand how he is being perceived due to his amnesty worship and his alliance with Hernadez......or he's toast. Notice that Reconquista never comes up in Juan McCain’s campaigning.........but if he wins, it will be at the top of his agenda. Count on it.

I posted nothing *slimy.*

I'll let the posts speak for themselves.

With Obama...or possibly an Obama/Clinton ticket, ...and a Democrat Congress, there will be NO effective way to encourage conservative policy.

With Hill/Bama, there will be a strong conservative voice of opposition to their leftist policies.

With McCain, conservatives will be told to "shut up" as he reaches across the aisle in implementing global warming regulation, amnesty, signs the LOST, etc. The strongest opposition to the leftist polices will be told to "never darken the doorstep of the White House."

McCain is running to be the "standard bearer" of the GOP. Hill/Bama is not. I don't want my quarterback givin' the ball to the other team. McCain is an unacceptable leader, IMO, because his chosen positions do not represent me (or the majority of the GOP platform). I find many of those positions disastrous and believe McCain would be more apt to get effect their passage than his Dem opponents--making him also "disastrous."

While I'm looking on McCain's site, you two bring up something I noticed immediately. He makes no bones about what a RINO he is, (also evidenced by the "eco-friendly" products page).

Straight talk, Ahnuld, and a comedy show.  sigh
