I agree with Rush on this so much. Except he was so down himself for last Tuesday’s show and I loved the show!

I’m not surprised that the pubbies lost three important, once tight, GOP elections. There’s a price for the pubs nominating such a lacklusterly received candidate as Juan McCain. There’s a price and it goes beyond sticking it to the conservative base.

For the crowds do not roar with the enthusiasm and cheer for a candidate they love and support with both money and time. The morale drops, action waffles, Delaware doesn’t even bother running a candidate even though a good pubbie would be a shoo in for Governor. Oh yeah, they finally got Bill Lee, the last guy who lost the election, to step up but the crowds do not cheer, the smiles are gone.

All these past two weeks I’ve been getting emails from the Sussex county Women’s Club, a group I’d once belonged to so proudly and was, forgive the lack of modesty, quite enjoyed by the members.

Well I don’t want to write them and tell them that I have no more enthusiasm, my drive is gone, that I feel betrayed by the GOP’s choice of a nominee and that even those so dedicated as to hold their nose and vote for the man have not one whit of joy.

THERE’S A PRICE FOR THIS, DAMMIT!

But hey, they are the political elites. They KNOW better than you an I.

Like Rush says, just sit it out, wait for the train wreck we all know is coming, then we can go in, pick up the pieces, and start anew.

I draw a comparison between my own Conservative Party and the Republican party with the nomination of McCain.

Here though I do not really want to use the 2 names in the same breath even though McCain is not my favourite candidate or do I support his views in total the man or rather the circumstances I quote is not fit to tie his boot laces Britain's John Major.

I long believed that the Conservatives did not believe that John Major or rather their party would win the general election (they sensed a sea change and a backlash of the Thatcher years in Britain) when they appointed him as leader I think they thought that get through this Parliament if a new charismatic leader had not emerged throw this election and regroup. It backfired Major won and then there was no regrouping and we have been out of power ever since. I fear this for the Republicans with the untrusted re Hiliary and now the race issue and unknown issues on Obama McCain could well get elected which may mean that the Republicans do not regroup and get a stronger leader for 4 years time.

I would never advocate throwing an election but you have to work all time to get the best person and even when you do not believe there is a natural successor to GWB’s mantle and regardless what you think of him or his policies he did have and still does have that ability to sway people an engage with them in way that I do not think McCain would want to or is capable of.

The Republican Party I fear thought that they did not stand a chance of winning this year similar to the thinking of our Conservative Party sensing a sea change in the country and backlash with GWB that they allowed him to get the nomination at the expense of IMHO other better candidates which maybe they felt may emerge as stronger contenders at the next cycle and did not want them associated with a loss this time.

Bad strategy if indeed this is the case - maybe I am way off beam but I believe there is an element of truth here.

IMHO go for the strongest candidate available regardless of whether you think you can win or not if he or she is a good contender even if they loose they will retain dignity and strength and be able to pick themselves up for the next challenge.
