Walt Disney sequel "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" had no problem reigning over Friday's box office, grossing $19.3 million as it opened in 3,929 theaters.
"Caspian's" opening day haul came in slightly lower than industry expectations and behind first Narnia installment, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," which pulled in $23 million on its first day and $65.6 million for its final three-day in December 2005. Both pics are co-productions with Walden Media.

Yeah.... one word for it....
SPELLBINDING !!
AMAZING !!
AWESOME !!
Well, ok, I realize that’s three words... but one word just will NOT do!
See it TWICE and bring a new friend the 2nd time.
Chase scene, fight scene, chase scene, fight scene, chase scene, fight scene, etc.
Great special effects, but weak plot and shallow characters. Not even in the same league as the first one.
I just saw the movie in a full theater and must say that I was a bit disappointed. Much of the wonder of the book, Bacchus and the wood nymphs dancing, the river complaining about the bridge, the Telemarine school girl who see Aslan and runs out of school to join him, these are all lost. I think the issue is that instead of following the book as geared for children, is that they shifted it to a teenage heart throb flick. It was ok, as a copy of LOTR battle scenes, but I would have rather they kept it closer to the book.
exactly--that's why our local Generation Joshua group got together to see it last night... there were 40-50 of us... not bad for a small group... we had people as young as 7 all the way to 60...
unfortunately, on a Christian music radio station this morning, i heard a critic say that this movie was good for teenagers and up... that his friend's ten-year old daughter cried throughout the entire movie... it was dark and the battle scenes were too violent... my seven-year old son got that it was fantasy and had no problem with it... my friend's seven-year old daughter who is very sensitive only closed her eyes during one segment and was fine with the rest... obviously it depends on the child... that the critic actually said it was not appropriate for any child not yet a teenager made me mad...
What is Generation Joshua? Fill me in...I’m curious.
the mouse with the sword and red feather was so very much like my seven-year old son... watching his mannerisms and listening to his manner of speaking were like watching my son on screen...
Generation Joshua's mission is to educate students on "not only how the government works," but "how it should work if the original intent of the Constitution is followed." The organization also seeks to provide activism opportunities for students to implement that vision, most notably by campaigning for candidates who share the organization's values.
i believe it has about 6,000 members nationwide... they do things like voter registration drives, canvass neighborhoods for conservative candidates, make phone calls to get out the vote and other events... it's a way to help kids learn the importance of civic duty and of being politically active...
the kids in our local group thought it was important to support Prince Caspian on opening night... that way the powers-that-be will consider doing more of these types of movies...
The whole audience clapped when I went to see it today. Excellent movie!
Very Cool. Thanks for the info. It’s great to see young kids getting involved with civics early on. Gives me confidence that not all kids play video games all day. Thank you.
Anna Popplewell is a Goddess.
BTW, we have this poor excuse for a reviewer in our local paper who thinks that’s he’s so clever. That alone wouldn’t be so bad, but he often decides to poke fun at other worldviews. Check out his Caspian review where he can’t help but comment on “Lewis’ loopy Holy Land analogies” and bring up Jews for Jesus. http://www.getoutaz.com/story/3795
Haven't you heard? Fatasy isn't selling!
;-)
Have you called or emailed the radio station? Maybe you can get them to release a rebuttal...
I’m going to see it next weekend! I hope it does well!
The Narnia films really compliment and expand on the books well.
Most Narnia fans will like the second installment.
The first managed to successfully create the Aslan character which was essential to get this series off the ground.
The second succeeded in creating the Reepacheep mouse character. This character will play a major roll in the next film as well.
As a fan of the books, I had a couple of disappointments that were not deal breakers for me. The biggest one was that the director could have made cinematic history if he had followed the book and shown the children becoming adults little by little throughout the story. They pretty much stayed the same. Perhaps there just was not enough budget to achieve this realistically through special effects, and it would certainly be impractical if not impossible by using multiple actors.
I thought the Hollywood style kiss and sappy music at the end just did not work or fit at all. But other aspects of the end worked very well.
Many embellishments successfully captured the spirit of the story and enriched it.
All in all I think it is a must-see for family movie goers.
Liberals hate it.
Go see it.
Mmmm... yep =)
Although I think the BEST casting in that movie was Eddie Izzard as Reepacheep - my favorite comedian playing my favorite Narnia character.
