Walt Disney sequel "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" had no problem reigning over Friday's box office, grossing $19.3 million as it opened in 3,929 theaters.

"Caspian's" opening day haul came in slightly lower than industry expectations and behind first Narnia installment, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," which pulled in $23 million on its first day and $65.6 million for its final three-day in December 2005. Both pics are co-productions with Walden Media.

This is a beautiful movie with powerful Christian messages. Going out of the theater, I felt like coming from a church service hearing a good sermon. Here are what I got from the movie.

(1) Rely on the Lord even when things seem to fall apart.

(2) Live your live in the world you live in. Peter, the oldest kid, seems to have hangover about being a high king in Narnia. Aslan reminds him that he need to take lessons he got from Narnia to live in his world.

Highly recommended! They have started the production of the 3rd movie (Voyage), but the other movies depend on how succesful these two movies in the b.o. Please note, however, that the movie is a bit darker than the 1st one. The message, however, is a continuation of that one. LWW layed the fondation: we're introduced to Aslan and His Great Magic. In this movie, we're asked to apply the Great Magic in every day life.

Ditto on your Prince Capsian comment. Saw it last night. People like to complain about Hollywood, justifbly so, so when a movie comes with like Caspain we have an obligation to support. The BO for this movie is underperforming so please see this.

Oh, so now Disney is good? Got religion?

No, wait, got social engineering according to other movies by Disney?

I was in the cineplex yesterday and highly recommend this film. Talking critters, appealing lead characters, plenty of terrific action scenes plus the Christian parable of Aslan as a Jesus figure, this is top-notch entertainment.

I was disappointed. It only demonstrated for me, by contrast, what an incredible cinematic wonder Peter Jackson created in the LOTR trilogy.

But I thought people didn’t want fantasy anymore.

At least, that’s what they said when the Golden Compass flopped. :)

The young man that plays Caspian, a British actor named Ben Barnes, is a hottie, so maybe the young female fans will indulge in repeat viewings and push the BO.

“came in slightly lower than industry expectations”

I didn’t expect it to do that well; it’s going against Speed Racer and Iron Man, both fantasy family movies.

Speed Racer doesn’t even really count, it’s a complete bomb. Iron Man did well, and Indiana Jones next week.. Rough timing.

Oh, so now Disney is good? Got religion? No, wait, got social engineering according to other movies by Disney? Disney is distributing the movie but the production company behind the Narnia series is Walden Media owned by Phillip Anshutz (sp?). He is a Christian who wants to bring movies with solid value to the public.

The film offers young people the fantasy of identifying with other young people who become the kings and queens of Narnia. Remember our childhood fantasies = kids dream of such fantasies.

Disney and Walden took too long in deciding to give the go ahead and produce Prince Caspian. Originally Prince Caspian was suppose to have been out this past Christmas season. The Narnia movies are perfect for Xmas season with school out and families together. I am not a Potter fan but give Warner Bros credit for pumping out those Potter films in a timely matter.

Okay, good. It's time Walt gets some rest from spinning in his grave.
