HYANNIS -- U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy was rushed by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital this morning after falling ill at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport.
Hyannis fire responded to the compound after a call was made around 8:30 a.m. It's unclear what Kennedy's medical condition is, but after he spent almost two hours in the emergency room a decision was made to transfer him to Mass General Hospital in Boston.
Kennedy, 76, was placed on a stretcher and wheeled out to the MedFlight helicopter around 10:15 a.m. where it took off from Barnstable Municipal Airport.
The Kennedy family is preparing to host the annual Best Buddies Challenge event in Hyannisport this afternoon, which is a fund-raiser for the organization. Best Buddies was founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver and helps people with intellectual disabilities.
Hundreds are expected to participate in the event, which kicked off this morning with a 100-mile bicycle ride from the Kennedy Library in Boston to Hyannisport.
A concert at the Kennedy compound is scheduled for tonight.
Kennedy has represented Massachusetts in the United States Senate for forty-three years.
He was elected in 1962 to finish the final two years of the Senate term of his brother, Senator John F. Kennedy, who was elected president in 1960.
Since then, Kennedy has been re-elected to seven full terms, and is now the second most senior member of the Senate.
Mod Note: We're watching this thread and are more than happy to hand out suspensions
Exactly.
The first reports were that he was suffering from stroke-like symptoms- so I’d not gotten as far as a tumor yet- but you’re right. Local Boston reporter told FOX that it will be 48 hours for test results. WTH? Maybe some of em- but they’ll be narrowing it down to a few possibilities way before then..
Will you kindly STFU and piss off?
Sorry about having to do that, Norm. With JimRob out, we don't have the manpower to cover more than one thread of this type and still keep up with the rest of the forum. I'm already an hour late out the door for my afternoon errands.
ROFLMAO
That is great to hear!

Ditto :-)
Very classy of you. Kudos.
I am SO stealing that picture!!!
Now hearing it was 2 seizures not a stroke and that he appears to be doing better than this morning.
Take note re: governor appointing a successor (incl. if he were to step down due to incapacitation)—I think they did pass a law providing for a special election. Not sure but i may have...Before then:
2/19/04:”Democrats eye plan to protect Kerry Senate seat
By Frank Phillips, Globe Staff | February 19, 2004
Massachusetts Democrats are devising a plan to keep John F. Kerry’s US Senate seat in their party’s hands by blocking Governor Mitt Romney from naming an interim replacement if Kerry wins the White House.
Beacon Hill lawmakers want to pass legislation that would leave Kerry’s seat vacant for two months or more, until a special election is held to fill it. That would prevent the Republican governor from naming an interim senator, as is currently required by state law.
:-)
I don't think she'll be a problem anymore.
Great pic, btw. :-)
Yep, some of the people I love best have the same views as Senator Kennedy and would advance them just the same as him if given the chance.
He fights the very partisan fights, but he is also long known in MA for having the most competent staff and having that staff actually follow up on the complaints and issues of regular people.
If you look closely you will also note that he has had cordial to close bonds with those he’s worked with across the aisle. That is, he has actually recognized the humanity of many conservative politicians, even though, almost like a professional athlete, he fights hard in the political arena.
Finally, by all accounts, he has taken on the added burden of trying to be there for the children of his fallen brothers, and he has taken that responsibility very seriously. Of his three own grown children, one is a disabled survivor of cancer and another one, well, another one is Congressman ‘Patches’ Kennedy from RI.
I think some of the legislation that he has had passed has been among the most destructive legislation we’ve seen in the last 50 years. But I am neither the final judge of that, nor the final judge of the man himself.
God bless him.
My mind is wandering since we have no news (and I’m avoiding doing any real activity)....why is having cameras on the entrance to the hospital not in violation of HIPPA laws? They aren’t set up for a new conference in that area.
Oh, man, I can’t stop giggling over that one! LOL
It’s amazing how many more need to be suspended.
They are not listening to the pleas from the mods. Their hatred needs an outlet apparently.
U2, eh?!
Yup! Me too! :)
The outside of the hosp is a public place. No patient info would be compromised by showing the front of the hospital.
