Sen. Kennedy falls ill; taken to Boston hospital by helicopter

HYANNIS -- U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy was rushed by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital this morning after falling ill at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport.

Hyannis fire responded to the compound after a call was made around 8:30 a.m. It's unclear what Kennedy's medical condition is, but after he spent almost two hours in the emergency room a decision was made to transfer him to Mass General Hospital in Boston.

Kennedy, 76, was placed on a stretcher and wheeled out to the MedFlight helicopter around 10:15 a.m. where it took off from Barnstable Municipal Airport.

The Kennedy family is preparing to host the annual Best Buddies Challenge event in Hyannisport this afternoon, which is a fund-raiser for the organization. Best Buddies was founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver and helps people with intellectual disabilities.

Hundreds are expected to participate in the event, which kicked off this morning with a 100-mile bicycle ride from the Kennedy Library in Boston to Hyannisport.

A concert at the Kennedy compound is scheduled for tonight.

Kennedy has represented Massachusetts in the United States Senate for forty-three years.

He was elected in 1962 to finish the final two years of the Senate term of his brother, Senator John F. Kennedy, who was elected president in 1960.

Since then, Kennedy has been re-elected to seven full terms, and is now the second most senior member of the Senate.

I met him once at the airport in D.C. many, many years ago. He was very polite to me.

I’d think if the Senator was still alive, it would be very inappropriate to speak of the man in past terms.

They do it to our current president....

In case you haven’t noticed, I’m pretty busy at the moment. Don’t be a PITA.

I wonder what he will have to say to Mary Jo? She suffered enough. I hope she wasn't sent there to welcome him.

Not so sure they will end up in the same place.

I invite all other participants to post anything else that is positive (in his public life).

I personally know individual constituents he has taken the time to go to bat for, helping them with many problems. While we all may deplore how we think he is in the Country's interest, I must remind everyone there is some reason he kept getting re-elected and it is NOT because everyone in Massachuestts is an idiot.

We only look that way.

Anybody with an immortal soul needs all the time he can get here, to make things right between him and his Creator.

That needs to be done while your still alive and functioning, not in a mog-mog vegatative state. His soul is what he has already made of it and all of the petitioning of the Lord with prayers will not change what he did and or made of his life in the eyes of the Lord.

Regardless of my personal opinion, I just hope that he is making his peace with God. We all have sins to atone for, although maybe not at the level of Ted, but I don’t wish to judge anyone. I do wish him a good recovery even if it is just to bring him closer to God and think hard about his life.

I tried, but I honestly cannot think of one...

...Wait.

There was the time back in ‘79 he ran against Jimmuh Carter, making it even easier for Reagan to win.

I was curious if we could be more civil than the DUmmies had a similar thing happened to an ultra-conservative national figure.

I wouldn't go over to the DUmp to find out, but have you perchance heard whether or not those clowns have had any comments regarding JimRob?

He either can’t breathe on his own or his level of consciousness is so altered that he cannot protect his airway if he were to vomit and the emesis could be sucked into his lungs.

Jesus said that if you have hate in your heart you are guilty of murder. And, if you have offended in one point of the law, you are guilty of all.

ALL of us are guilty. NONE of us has clean hands. Just because certain sins get a pass with us doesn’t mean they get a pass with God.

That’s why the Lord sent His beloved Son, to be for us all that He requires of us. And, as bad as Senator Kennedy has been in areas of his life, He is still not beyond the grasp of God’s redemption. That’s what we should pray for.
