Sen. Kennedy falls ill; taken to Boston hospital by helicopter

HYANNIS -- U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy was rushed by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital this morning after falling ill at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport.

Hyannis fire responded to the compound after a call was made around 8:30 a.m. It's unclear what Kennedy's medical condition is, but after he spent almost two hours in the emergency room a decision was made to transfer him to Mass General Hospital in Boston.

Kennedy, 76, was placed on a stretcher and wheeled out to the MedFlight helicopter around 10:15 a.m. where it took off from Barnstable Municipal Airport.

The Kennedy family is preparing to host the annual Best Buddies Challenge event in Hyannisport this afternoon, which is a fund-raiser for the organization. Best Buddies was founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver and helps people with intellectual disabilities.

Hundreds are expected to participate in the event, which kicked off this morning with a 100-mile bicycle ride from the Kennedy Library in Boston to Hyannisport.

A concert at the Kennedy compound is scheduled for tonight.

Kennedy has represented Massachusetts in the United States Senate for forty-three years.

He was elected in 1962 to finish the final two years of the Senate term of his brother, Senator John F. Kennedy, who was elected president in 1960.

Since then, Kennedy has been re-elected to seven full terms, and is now the second most senior member of the Senate.

Thanks RK! What I remember most about that week was I walked by her room and she had her arms stretched out above her and was talking to someone. It gave me chills because she was a woman of faith and I can only imagine who that someone was. Also, my cat, who loved her, never left her side. Was lying in her lap when she passed and stayed with her until the funeral home came and picked her up. Then he slept on her blanket on the bed for a few nights. Poor thing.

All due respect, why did you remove #106?..(I think it was mine)

What in the world did I do to get this?....I don't think in my nine years I've ever had a post removed.

Could you explain please.

I doubt it has an effect either way. Ted Kennedy, aside from his endorsement, which hardly means anything anymore (not Kennedy's but anybodies for any candidate). The Hussein campaign can hardly make political hay if the man dies after the fiasco that they created after Wellstone was killed and the libs turned his memorial service into a political rally.

The Kennedy family seems destined to grief and tragedy, a sad tale - Prayers for them.

As I mentioned in the other thread, the helicopter photo shows a flight medic with a BVM resuscitator over the senator’s face. This suggests that he either is not breathing or is not breathing sufficiently. It is a sign of a grave condition following a stroke. I live close to the compound, and our local Cape Cod Hospital is good, but not the place I would want one of my family members to be in a truly life-threatening condition. It is becoming obvious that Sen. Kennedy is in need of the type of neurological care found in Boston, and that this is not a TIA or minor stroke.

It’s sad to think that Mr. Kennedy might not think he has anything to repent for because of the people of Mass. kept telling him he was doing the right thing.

When it’s your time, it’s your time.

When God calls you home, you have to go, no ifs, ands, or buts. I learned this lesson the hard way when my father passed away after a 2 1/2 week hospital stay before Christmas.

I’m not a fan of the Massachusetts senator, but if it’s not his time, he will survive. If it is his time, he will see his parents and his brothers this very day.

CNN: Kennedy’s office issued a statement saying he “wasn’t feeling well” and went to Cape Cod hospital. After “discussion with his doctors”, he was transferred to MA General Hospital for “evaluation”.

“I agree. Like I said on the other thread I don’t like the things he has done or what he stands for, but I wish him health and hapiness.”

He’s worked to destroy America for his personal gain. Lieberman is a liberal that can be respected. Guess I have no class. I’ll pray for his salvation and to turn away from evil though.

The Senate has a lot of old people. Both parties have a lot of power vested in people who are vulnerable to the health problems of old age. Public corporations could not vest so much power in people who are so old and are not in particularly good health for their age.

It was to be specifically applied to this thread, not to history in general. I was curious if we could be more civil than the DUmmies had a similar thing happened to an ultra-conservative national figure.

I distinctly remember them pissing and dancing on Ronald Reagans grave a few years ago. Completely vile and disgusting behavior for any human being.

Glad that is not the case here.

Even Brit Hume....Kennedy was..., he would...., he was.....

I’d think if the Senator was still alive, it would be very inappropriate to speak of the man in past terms.
