Saudi Oil Minister Ali Naimi told reporters in Riyadh that the increase, which went into effect last Saturday, is intended to make up for recent output losses from other U.S. suppliers, including Nigeria, Venezuela and Mexico. It would lift the kingdom's output to a total of 9.45 million barrels a day by June.
"Any demand for extra production capacity from consumers will be immediately met," he said.

A small drop in a large ocean of oil.
But, every little bit helps.

Someone help me out here: weren’t the headlines yesterday or the day before reading, “Saudis blow off Bush,” or something like that?

Nice scam. Keep production down while prices climb to the limit. Then sell at that high price because oil never goes down sharply.
They got us just in that sweet spot. Prices high enough to hurt, but too low for alternatives to get us independent. OPEC is getting smarter.

"It's not enough. It's something but it doesn't solve our problem," Bush said. "One of the interesting things about American politics is, those who are screaming the loudest for increased production from Saudi Arabia are the very same people who are the fighting the fiercest against domestic exploration, against the development of nuclear power and against expanding refining capacity."

Why does the West permit Arabs to control the oil supply? It really puzzles me every time I see these fat slobs in their robes. It wasn’t always so. They are defenseless. What is the rationale for our willful surrender? It is a strange world.

This was a win/win for the Saudis. They sell more oil at the still increasing prices, so they make more money. They also appear to be working with us. Yet, at the same time, they are doing nothing that will adversely affect their OPEC friends.
