Seattle Times editorial writer Bruce Ramsey, in an effort to defend Barack Obama against President Bushs appeasement speech, actually ends up defending Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler, and the Anschluss (the annexation of Austria): Bush, and His Use of Appeasement.
Democrats are rebuking President Bush for saying in his speech to the Knesset, here, that to negotiate with terrorists and radicals is appeasement. The Democrats took it as a slap at Barack Obama. What bothers me is the continual reference to Hitler and his National Socialists, particularly the British and French accommodation at the Munich Conference of 1938.
What Hitler was demanding was not unreasonable. He wanted the German-speaking areas of Europe under German authority. He had just annexed Austria, which was German-speaking, without bloodshed. There were two more small pieces of Germanic territory: the free city of Danzig and the Sudetenland, a border area of what is now the Czech Republic.
We live in an era when you do not change national borders for these sorts of reasons. But in 1938 it was different. Germanys eastern and western borders had been redrawn 19 years beforeand not to its benefit. In the democracies there was some sense of guilt with how Germany had been treated after World War I. Certainly there was a memory of the Great War. In 2008, we have entirely forgotten World War I, and how utterly unlike any conception of The Good War it was. When the British let Hitler have a slice of Czechoslovakia, they were following their historical wisdom: avoid war. War produces results far more horrible than you expected. War is a bad investment. It is not glorious. Dont give anyone an excuse to start one.
Wow.
I am an ethnic German (Saxon specifically). When the Kaiser started to swallow all of the German states in the 19th century, my great Grandfather got the heck out. In WWII, my Grandpa HATED the fascists.
There is a remnant here that will not go quietly.
My tag line is better, IMHO....I’ve been making them as bumper stickers for almost ten years.
That's SO true....the Liberals hates the American Populace Voters / Public Election / Secret Ballots....They really admired Murderous Totalitarian Dictators like Lenin / Stalin / Hitler / Mao-Tse / Castro / Pol Pot et al....THEY ALL HATE FREEDOM AND FREE WILL.
.....but, they love (free) elections, where THEY (and only THEY) counts the Votes.
Sorry I didn't get it to you, I'm laying down on the job I'm afraid! Don't be afraid to ask when you need to.
Made a lot of sense did it, Sluggo? How did that Operation Barbarossa work out for you?
Of course not. It has no pictures and no jokes in it. Even better was Shirer's Berlin Diary, for contemporaneous entries of history as it happened. Hitler was transparent from the start to anyone with eyes to see. And the "democracies" were contemptible and pusllinamous as well, a fact not lost on Hitler right from the march uncontested into the Rhineland.
“A willingness and ability to rain hellfire down on your enemies and their families and friends and neighbors (and, hell, even their pets) will make them think twice before messing with you.”
One of my favorite quotes that I use elsewhere:
“If you rub it in both at home and abroad that you are ready for instant war... and intend to be first in and hit your enemy in the belly and kick him when he is down and boil your prisoners in oil (if you take any)... and torture his women and children, then people will keep clear of you.”
Vice Admiral Sir John Fisher, Royal Navy, 1898.
Well, it's the one reason I would reluctantly vote for him.
They look good devolve.
I need to make one of Michelle Obama - ranting!
That’s what I get for late night FReeping...
Of course, I meant that I DO see this as the most important in my lifetime.
Thanks, Gonzo!
The editorialist fails to mention some other "issues" that Adolph had back in '38 aside from the land deal. What an idiot...
This is crazy....Bruce Ramsey, liberal wacko editor has written other articles: I refuse to give a URL to show the trash he writes but here is a quick sommary of his split thinking: Criticize the Muslims- bad (Freedom of Religion, we must respect all religions); critize the Jews-bad (taboo in American Journalism, so he says-Freedom of Religion again), but criticize Catholics- ok (because that is freedom of expression, as in an art form expression); similarly: criticize Obama-bad, that is conservatism; but criticize National Socialism- bad (because it embodied a liberal spirit of trying to right a wrong- freedom of thought)....very twisted thinking; and by relating everything back to the Constitution he can pick and choose which ‘freedom’ he wants to base his goofy arguments on...
In a sense it may be insanity; in many other people, it is just a total lack of moral decency- they never learned good values, or good ethics, or maybe lost their moral compass along the way...they have perverted their own intellectualism to reach some very weird conclusions, as shown in Ramsey’s article...In any case it is total stupidity...
Thanks FARS.
