Robert Redford's green streak runs deep ( barf )

At Ron Burkle's mansion...

ON A BALMY evening this week, the crowd at billionaire Ron Burkle's Beverly Hills estate was a mixture of high-level academia and high-level Hollywood, none higher than Robert Redford, actor, director, Sundance guru and the industry's über-environmental activist.

Serious gatherings like this at Burkle's begin with a Champagne reception in the foyer, an intimately lavish space where presidents, generals, senators and Los Angeles' moneyed elite mingle and discuss the pressing issues of the day.

(Half the town has portraits of themselves with former President Bill Clinton there.)

When Redford entered the foyer from the inner sanctum of Burkle's library (call it America's best-appointed green room), members of Pitzer College's presidents' council had been chatting for an hour, munching on the estate's trademark mini-cheese burgers and bite-sized salads on a cracker.

After chatting in the foyer, Redford made his way down a windowed gallery, just past the Renoir. He was stopped briefly by a fan who wanted to chat about his onetime interest in auto racing.

"What do you drive now?" someone asked. He laughed. A Prius, and two Lexus hybrids. Then he whispered: "Sometimes I'll put on a mask and drive the [Porsche] Boxster."

After all, this is a man who played Jay Gatsby.

Inside Burkle's soaring, wood-paneled living room, with two Hockneys brightening the walls, Redford found a corner seat on one of two plush suede couches near the fireplace.

Isn’t Robert Redford the one that once had a mountain (large hill) removed because it blocked his view?

Burkle has off shore corporations. One of which paid Bill Clinton 25 million.

The color of Dems...

If it's not green, it's yellow.

Or a combination of both.

Don’t forget their most important color - red. That’s why I call them ‘stoplight commies’ - they go from green to red with a brief flash of yellow in between.

He is the worst kind of hypocrite. He bought a lot of property up Provo canyon, including the Sundance ski resort and a lot of undeveloped land. It used to be a place where the locals could go and picnic, and hike up to a place called Stewart Falls.

Then they shut down all the hiking trails. They told everyone it was to “protect the environment.” But, within a short period of time, Redford had bulldozers in there, cutting new roads, and building huge expensive homes for the wealthy. The only improvement in the “environment” was that the riff raff couldn’t clutter up the place by hiking.

"riff raff couldn’t clutter up the place by hiking."

give him a break...the riff raff were probably also berry picking.....*sigh*

believe me, this is what is behind the enviro whacko movement...the rich and the elite want public lands that can't be used by Joe Sixpack....they want endangered species, they want timber prohibitions, they want dirt roads thru national forest closed, and whatever little land or park is left, by God you'll pay for it....

the elites and the rich don't want to mingle with we the people....they want the people to stop using up all the land, the waters, the air, .....they don't want to contend with us...

to the ghetto, slaves!

and does anybody wonder why there was no howling from the leftist and the elites and the richies when the Supreme Court literally condoned the stealing of citizen land for NO GOOD REASON....even if it meant taking land from one peasant so a leftist could build a bigger house....

How did Redford get the mountain (Sundance)? I thought it was public land?

There might be some public land involved on some of the runs, but Sundance used to be Timp Haven. All that area was owned by the Stewart family. They used to run sheep there.

He should shut down his ski resort and replant all the trees that were removed. That resort uses energy and people use huge amounts of energy to get there. Save the planet, Robert. Shut it down.
