Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign is trying to tap a new audience of potential voters by taking his campaign message straight to liberal and nonpolitical issues-based blogs, which reach millions of readers but don't often delve into conservative politics.
The strategy was in full swing yesterday when Mr. McCain invited non-conservative bloggers to join his regular blogger conference call, just hours after he delivered a major speech previewing his war strategy and other priorities for a first presidential term.
It already has started a war among liberal bloggers over how to react to Mr. McCain's overture.
In answering the first question on the call, Mr. McCain said his likely Democratic opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, lacks the judgment to be commander in chief, which set him up for a bruising from the readers at TalkingPointsMemo.com, a liberal-leaning site that joined in the call.

Remember Buckley’s comment about preferring to be governed by the first 400 names out of the Boston telephone directory, than the faculty of Harvard? I’m beginning to think a random lottery for the office of POTUS would yield a better result than the top contenders we have this year.
I’m voting for Chuck Baldwin and the Constitution Party. Those who ‘hold their noses’ and vote for McCain are just telling the GOP that they support their leftward march, and encourage more of the same. That’s the bottom line. Until you actually leave them and vote against them, they will just assume they can keep moving left.
I’m sure he’ll find them very open-minded and fair.
Great strategy you have there, Johnny. Good luck because I'm not voting for you.
That way, I can do my part to contribute to that longed-for spirit of bipartisanship in America.
Very well put. What we're seeing is the demise of a political party. Just as the Whigs began to fade when they abandoned core principles, so now are the Republicans.
Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it.
Who is Churck Baldwin, is he the actor?
I guess he plans an ultra-conservative VP, while he courts the buzzheads.
“which reach millions of readers but don’t often delve into conservative politics.”
That’s ok, neither does McCain.
I’m not happy about it either, but I will not do as I did when Clinton ran, and I voted for Ross Perot. It was a vote for Clinton, because it was one less for a Republican. I am an Independent, but the issue of National Security is the only one I see as relevant now, because with out it (see tagline) we will have chaos...that means no economy, illegal aliens amuck, crime, theft, and just look at some of poverty, squaler, and trash in places like China, Africa and other places where communism and muslims live...that will be what we get for our lack of voting.
“McCain trying to appeal to left-wing blogs.”
Well it shouldn’t be all that difficult for him.
“Im voting for Chuck Baldwin and the Constitution Party. Those who hold their noses and vote for McCain are just telling the GOP that they support their leftward march, and encourage more of the same.”
You are not alone.

You won’t agree with everything they stand for, and I sure don’t but I agree with them far more than I agree with McBackstabbers’ GOP.
