A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 200,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest! We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.
Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
I received this in my email June 10th, 2006 - the author is unknown. I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

how nice to see the fox family! I didn’t think they were bold enough to come close but I guess when they are hungry they will. Our dogs & cats “discourage” visitors to the door anymore.
We used to have racoons come to back deck/door & beg.. & scratch at door til we gave them food. I was going thru 50 pounds of dog food a week(before I had dogs)
Friends finally told me to stop. for lots of reasons..
can you get a pix of them if they come back?
going to try to sleep a bit before church

The foxes are VERY skittish..Momma did not seem happy the babies were with her...They came across following her..momma stopped, seemed to have a family confab and then they raced back across the patio to where they live..I don’t take pictures but could not have gotten a shot anyway.Any movement scares them. So cute..They are really babies.
Poppa came later in daylight..ate birdseed as that is all the raccoons had left ..even “marked “the food spot. He usually does that to my bird bath..water saucer. He is much more”relaxed”.
I got a “concerned” call from my son this week..He worries if one of those raccoons attacked me no one would be there to help..I am so careful..and watch to see if there are any changes in their manner. I NEVER touch or startle them..and they are entertaining for me and my kitty.

Sweet little church in the woods...wish I could go there today. I want to go to church this morning but for some reason I don’t feel like getting ready.
And, Dolly, love the covered bridge. All I can think of when I see a covered bridge is “The Bridges of Madison County”...love that movie! We have some covered bridges in a little town close by. The town is Elizabethton....I know you have heard of it, if you attended E.T.S.U. for a time.
Meg and Lori, I believe my bluebirds are gone. I am so troubled over it. Saw no activity all day yesterday until late in the evening....no birds. I pray I will see them today but don’t think so. I am very familiar with their activity. I had a feeling when I saw that hole look so different, that something was wrong. Their nest was finished a long time ago and they had 5 little eggs about 10 days ago.

Oh my..I am so sorry! I have worried because I have no cardinal fledglings showing up..I saw poppa feed momma this morning..Perhaps something happened to their nest and they are going to start over. Your bluebirds may start over..I hope so.
I have frequent feeding at the hummingbird feeder ..only one at a time and it seems only females..I have it close in view so I am enjoying. I had none last year.
God’s creations give me so much joy.

Gods Strong Hands
Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. Genesis 32:24
In Genesis, it seems that almost every person and family mentioned is dysfunctional. The text is filled with accounts of jealousy, anger, violence, and deception that leave a trail of damaged relationships. Even Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacoblauded as heroes of faith in Hebrews 11display flawed character and spiritual lapses. But God never leaves them that way.
Jacob defrauded his older twin Esau, who swore to kill him (Gen. 27:41). Then, before the estranged brothers would face each other after 20 years, Jacob wrestled with God. When asked his name, the conniving younger brother finally admitted who he was: Jacobthe deceiver (Gen. 32:24-27). That marked a spiritual turning point.
Noted preacher Carlyle Marney said that because God doesnt give up on us, we should not give up on ourselves. The last person on earth you will forgive a weakness is yourself, Dr. Marney wrote. Only in the gospel can men go on loving themselves. Wait on God! See what His strong hands will fashion out of your defection.
When we have turned back, God can turn us around. When we have destroyed, God can rebuild. Christ in the strong hands of God conquering my defection. This is the gospel.
Though weak and helpless in lifes fray
Gods mighty power shall be our stay;
Without, within, Hell set us free
His strength will give us victory. D. De Haan
There is victory in surrender when we are conquered by Christ.
