Really, really, REALLY dumb.
1) not even funny
2) plays into hands of MSM
3) denigrates not only himself but also NRA
Not ready for prime time.
Memo to McCain: take this one off your VP list.

Bush could have been referring to the Obama aide who resigned or was fired last week when it became common knowledge that he had been meeting with the leaders of Hama on a regular basis. That’s what he did for Obama, advise him on the Middle East, so maybe Bush was directing his remarks to Obama, but he could have just as easily been thinking of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid or any of the Baghdad Boys. Maybe he was referring to the Democrats in general. Obama just had a guilty conscience over Malley and he was afraid that it would become the next example of bad judgement that caused a media frenzy.

This doesn't just hurt him, but it hurts the reputation of responsible gun owners by suggesting that anyone at an NRA convention would do such a thing.
It reminds me of him doing this before when he went on a turkey or quail shoot in IA and took a shot over the heads of the reporters.
That is a huge side effect of this - it does hurt us - similar to when Cheney shot one of this friends and they acted like it was no big deal. Meanwhile the liberals and media are painting us with the "these people are dangerous and crazy" brush.

Earl Butz was a good man, I presume you remember his famous comment (which was SUPPOSED to be “off the record” but some scumbag reporter reported it anyway)?

not only was this a stupid statement, it WAS NOT EVEN FUNNY!!!!!
It could be forgiven if it were at least funny. But I can’t make out a punchline in the abortion of a joke. Huckabee apparently laid an egg which is okay with me cuz I don’t want his name to be associated with anything in D.C. in the future other than ‘Faith Based Initiative Director’.

This is pretty bad but at least he is not McCain's running mate so it will be somewhat harder to use this against McCain.
I had started to suspect Huckabee might actually be the VP on the ticket but I doubt that now.

The MSM will use it against McCain.
More importantly they'll use it against the NRA.

Sorry but I chuckled, until he said, "someone pointed a gun at him....... thats why he fell". Then in my mind I said uh oh, just as the look on his face showed that in his mind he said, "ahhhh dang! That was DUMB"

Propagating the story propagates the idea - which, if it is as nefarious as so-called conservatives here make it out to be, would be equally heinous on the part of the media.
I welcome a Huckabee VP - even in light of a pandering joke.
