Releases Contact: Brendan Daly/Nadeam Elshami 202-226-7616 For Immediate Release 05/16/2008 Pelosi Statement on President Bushs Failure to Pressure Saudi Arabia to Increase Oil Production
Washington, D.C. Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on record oil prices as news reports indicate that Saudi Arabian officials have rejected pleas from President Bush to increase oil production. In trading today, oil reached a record more than $127 a barrel:
As record oil prices continue to burden American families and businesses, reports indicate that the Presidents visit to Saudi Arabia today to push for increased production has failed. Despite considerable influence, the Bush Administration has been ineffective in pressuring Saudi Arabia and, yet again, has failed to effectively use diplomacy to exact short-term relief for American consumers.
Next week, the New Direction Congress will send legislation to the President to suspend deliveries to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, a tool that has in the past reduced prices for consumers. As the President returns from the Middle East, I urge him to reverse his opposition and finally take this action, signing legislation that has passed the House and Senate by veto-proof margins.
"Next week, the House will also act on legislation that will extend and expand tax incentives to invest in renewable energy and create the green jobs of the future, as well as revised NOPEC legislation to crack down on OPEC-controlled entities and oil companies for oil price fixing.
As the Presidents drill and veto policies and diplomatic efforts with respect to OPEC have only led to increased gas prices, the New Direction Congress will continue to take legislative steps to help ease the pain at the pump.
Kettle; black...
I just want to know where the Republicans are?
If you tied her mouth shut her ass would fly open. The Botox must be getting to her.
I can not tell you how sick I am of this woman. Every time she opens her mouth I am amazed once again at her stupidity.
Like I said. Liberals.
: )
Amen, brother, amen. Pelosi is an idiot, but it’s not like she’s standing on an island by herself.
Bush needs to hit her back hard. Ask her where her common sense plan to reduce gas is that she promised, point out that gas prices have gone up more than any other time with the democrats in control of congress, and state that the democrats and their environmental special interest group friends refusal to allow more oil production in the US is the real reason we are in this mess now.
There only enough reserve for 100 days. What then if that runs out?
President Bush....veto, veto, veto every damn thing that these slugs toss your way.
“..the New Direction Congress will continue to take legislative steps to help ease the pain at the pump.
Ummm since Nancy and her gang took over in 2006, gas prices have skyrocketed. Please stop helping us! We can’t afford it.
We shouldn’t actually SELL the reserve simply to move oil prices. It exists for a reason.
If we want to move oil prices, we should drill ANWR, and SELL THAT OIL. Clinton proved in 2000 that if you increase domestic supply, the price of oil comes down.
The Democrats now say that drilling won’t decrease the price of oil, ANWR won’t decrease the price of oil, shale oil won’t decrease the price of oil.
But NOT buying 70,000 barrels a day will drop the price, and building solar energy power plants will drop the price of oil.
What a freaking clueless moron. She lead the fight to defeat drilling here. Make her pay for her own gas!
These are the people who fight ANWR drilling tooth and nail because “it would take ten years to get any oil”....but they expect other countries to magically produce more oil instantly.
This is the most amazing statement in the whole crock!!! Congress keeps blocking any attempt to actually drill anything.
Even a moron should be able to understand that the President's drill policy has never even been tried, so the high gas prices might actually be because..... hello? anyone? anyone? Beuller?
