Conyers: 'We're closing in on Rove'
Politico ^ | 5-15-08 | Ryan Grim

Posted on 05/15/2008 10:57:21 AM PDT by kingattax

Just off the House floor today, the Crypt overheard House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers tell two other people: “We’re closing in on Rove. Someone’s got to kick his ass.”

Asked a few minutes later for a more official explanation, Conyers told us that Rove has a week to appear before his committee. If he doesn’t, said Conyers, “We’ll do what any self-respecting committee would do. We’d hold him in contempt. Either that or go and have him arrested.”

Conyers said the committee wants Rove to testify about his role in the imprisonment of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman, among other things.

“We want him for so many things, it’s hard to keep track,” Conyers said

Where's the quote from Captain Ahab... Talk about an obsession beyond comprehension. Conyers make Joe McCarthy look good.

Exactly, why the Republicans are not screaming the fact that Democrats refuse to allow us to drill for more oil and that leading to our fuel price crunch is a mystery.

“Conyers make Joe McCarthy look good.”

For the most part McCarthy was dead right, and his “obsession” was well-directed and accurate in its focus.

There are efforts in some communities to arrest Bush and Cheney on site (even after they’ve left office) so that they can be handed over to a foreign power to be tried for war crimes in the Hague.

“We’ll do what any self-respecting committee would do."

When you find one of those 'self-respecting' committees let me know. Wasn't he the one who helped halt impeachment of the philanderer in chief?

Joseph McCarthy was a good man. It was people like Conyers who painted him as an overzealous witch hunter.

He was OVERWHELMINGLY correct in nearly every single aspect and accusation of communists in the government.

He was a patriot, a good man, and gave his life and reputation for his country.

If anyone should be arrested it is the antediluvian jive turkey from Detroit.

You mean the turkey THIEF. Remember when he volunteered to have his staff pass out the charity turkeys one Thanksgiving and they stole them?

“We’re closing in on Rove. Someone’s got to kick his ass.”

It’s a textbook example of the abuse of Congressional power. The job of Congress is to pass laws, not conduct judicial proceedings.

One may recall that his staff allegedly stole 60 turkeys from a charity.

Allegations described in The Hill include:

Demanding that his congressional aides work on local and state campaigns (for example, his wife’s failed state Senate bid).

Forcing aides to baby-sit, tutor, and chauffeur his children.

Stiffing a catering company.

Some of his aides face allegations too:

Using his office to obtain a fake passport in order to flee to Ghana after being convicted of fraud, making false statements, and government theft.

Conducting a private law practice out of his office.

“I could not tolerate any longer being involved with continual unethical, if not criminal, practices which were accepted as ‘business as usual,’” his former deputy chief of staff wrote in a letter to a congressional ethics panel. Her allegations against Conyers go back to 1998.

Can anyone remind me of the time he stood in the way for an extradition of a murderer to Miss. The murderer killed two old people, both black. I believe I saw it on Frontline about 8-10 years age. Thanks!
