Sen. John McCain, taking a victory lap as the presumptive Republican nominee, happily poked fun at his only remaining opponent.
Asked during an appearance on "The Daily Show" last week which of the two Democratic nominees he preferred to run against in the general election, McCain quipped, "Ron Paul."
But Paul might get the last laugh during McCain's coronation at the party's convention in early September.
McCain's nomination may be certain, but he finds himself pressured by different wings of the conservative movement -- from the libertarians and the anti-war activists, to social conservatives and evangelical voters.

He can continue nothing in honor, because he is without honor. The very first reason to withhold my vote is due to his ignoble character.
He is running as an independent with the endorsemet of the American Independent Party.
I don't think McCain has any Black Panther or Weathermen affiliations.
There is a huge difference between the two.
Your choices this year are simple; McCain or Obama. A vote not cast for McCain is a vote for Obama.
We need to out working for McCain this year, but out working to get a real conservative for the next go around.
No honor? LOL!!! Princess, go have a coffee.
Face it Mel Martinez and the other pseudo-conservative RNC leaders got exactly the process they wanted, which yeilded the perfect candidate.
I find it hilarious that you respond to a plaintive request for a positive, historically grounded reason to support McCain with yet another “XXX is so much worse” post.
Hilarious and telling.
I would only observe that I thought Ford was a lousy president and I didn't vote for him but instead I was voting against Carter.
I feel pretty certain that as bad as Ford might have been there was no way he could have been worse than Carter.
I've held my nose pretty much every election in my life excepting two.
So yeah, I'll punch the ticket for McCain just like I did for every stinker before and after Reagan. Sometimes, no, most times you have to choose the one you don't trust to do the right thing vs. the one you KNOW won't do the right thing.
For what it's worth.
That’s what he says NOW. What he said THEN was a classic class-warfare throwaway line about “tax cuts for the rich”.
Which McCain rationale is the truth, and which the lie?
No, moron.
I’m saying they’ll be no difference. They both hate conservatives. Your bridge obviously doesn’t reach logic or reasoning.
McCain’s will ALL be miss. Count on it.
Good question. The next 4 years are going to be tough on all of us.
The irony of FR's biggest ChiCom defender posting this is flooring me.
I love how the October '07 n00b is going on about how FR has been "lately".
La Raza (The People) is a political organization attempting to better the lives of Hispanic Americans.
Voting simply out of selfish personal interest instead of principle is childish and wrong.
I'd if it means keeping my integrity, I'll pay the higher taxes.
"The major problem - one of the major problems, for there are several - one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather or who manages to get people to let them do it to them To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must WANT to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job. To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem." -Douglas Adams - Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
When Paul goes and kisses "The Race"'s ass, you lemme know.
I’m not a Ron Paul fan, but I’m not voting for McCain, either. I can’t. We are in a war for private property rights in my part of Washington State. The fascists liberals are using environmental excuses to dictate private property use, including trying to stop all animal farming. One man told me that the county inspector told him that he should get rid of his cows and raise soy. They are also trying to turn over all the water rights in the state to the Indians and put meters on private wells.
Jesus Christ, this nonsense was debunked months ago...
