6th-grade survey: Classmate most likely to get pregnant

A 6th-grade teacher in Jackson, Miss., asked her class to take a survey to determine which of their classmates were most likely to get pregnant, die and contract AIDS before graduation from high school.

Now the father of the honor student selected as most likely to get pregnant wants the teacher fired, according to local station WAPT.

Curtis Lyons said he found out about the survey when his daughter came home from Chastain Middle School Monday.

"She was humiliated," Lyons said. "She's an honor student."

According to the father, students were given a survey in science class that asked them to select students they thought were most likely to die, get pregnant, or contract AIDS.

The names of all students were included on the survey and the class associated the names with the scenarios.

Once the results were tallied, Lyons said, the teacher told his daughter that the statistics showed that her classmates believed that she was one of four girls most likely to become pregnant.

"I don't think she should be teaching kids," Lyons said. "Those questions were out of place and inappropriate. I want to know what was the lesson in that?"

Those questions were out of place and inappropriate. I want to know what was the lesson in that?”

That lesson was about an agenda. Had nothing to do with science or teaching children. It had everything to do with a liberal teacher using the Government’s Liberal School system to further the Governments agenda in gaining power and control over future voters.
If I had school age children you would not be able to force me to have them in the government schools at the point of a gun.............”
My grandchildren were removed from “public” schools and are now home schooled. There are more polite, more mature, and more intelligent then they were in the “public” system. They have wide ranging interests that go beyond who is wearing what and which video game is the more violent.
Two nephews are either home schooled or in a Christian School and both are doing very well and have fewer problems then children in the area that are in the public school system.
Some public schools may still have teachers that really are there to teach not to brainwash with a social or liberal agenda. But I think they are the exception to the rule in that system.

They’re 6th graders, this is by far the worst age group. They are mean and catty. They probably picked her BECAUSE she was an honor student, or because they don’t like her clothes, or because they may see her as a “goody two shoes”.

This student has probably been in this school system since she was 5 years old and in the same classes as many of these students. When you are suddenly confronted with what your friends think of you without them having to say it to your face, it can be devastating. To have an authority figure that she probably looked up to all year create this ordeal for her is even worse. Kids have enough problems to deal with everyday without something like this blindsiding them from the far left field. This teacher needs to find a new career path, perhaps as a bank teller. I can only wonder what this survey did to the poor kid who was voted most likely to die before graduating.

It sounds like the teacher wanted to know who the biggest whore is.

That was my first thought. If this girl is a Black honour student, she is *acting White* and therefore her classmates would have a lot invested in tearing her down.

This teacher is an obliviot if she grew up in Mississippi and did not know that.

My instinct would be to use this as an excellent opportunity to discuss abstinence with my daughter, to discuss “that we are in the world, not of the world”

Your instinct would get you beat up in todays schools or voted most likely to die before graduation.

Okay, what lesson would you try to teach if your child was picked most likely to die before graduation?

A promisicuous young person is none of the teacher’s business. Report it to the parents? Generally, parents know more than oone thinks. And popularity can be construed as promiscuity.

This was way, way out of line. To get it from a teacher, who is supreme authority to a 6’th grader, that you are a slut and will die in AIDS. Poor kid. I say, make the teacher explain to the entire class how wrong what he did was. Then make him apologize to the girl and her father, in front of the class. Then fire his ass and make sure he never teaches again.

Also, I questions the “science” behind this “survey”, being as how it was a science-teacher who put it forth. How about we discuss matters such as undue bias in polling sample.

Given: 100% of Freepers dislikes Hillary Clinton.

Question: Is it fair to say that according to polls, 100% of americans dislike Hillary Clinton.

Discuss.

Given: Majority of classmates thinks the Honor student is a slut (and they also like to pick on her at recess because she’s way smarter than them).

Question: Does this mean the Honor student is a slut?

Discuss

This generation of Christians will have to be far stronger than my generation can imagine. They are being called to testify in ways we do not yet understand.

I see huge changes in our youth’s commitment to God coupled with a day by day degradation of our culture. These two trajectories are on a collision course. I want my kids to be prepared.

I would have selected the wrong one(s) in 6th grade.

The girl that got pregnant was the preacher’s daughter. She delivered the day after graduation. That made a really nice sight during the ceremony.

Ah... we're talking 5th graders. Little girls can and do get jealous. She's a superior student, and the little kids found a way to make the honor student feel "bad". The little boys probably see her as a "kiss up", and translated that to mean "promiscuous".

So. Now, doing well at school is more than just "acting white" but grounds for labeling a person as more likely to get pregnant out of wedlock, get aids, etc?

The question of the survey is about who is most likely to get into trouble. The question might as well read:

Who do you wish bad things would happen to..

I was in a pretty small school. Everyone knew everyone else’s business. We had one other that got pregnant. She carried to term as well, just kept it very quiet. Wore lots of big clothes. Private, in family adoption. Preacher’s daughter pretty much announced it to everyone. Needed to break the image of the good girl. She certainly did that well.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The best way to prepare children is to homeschool. More than 90% of homeschooled children remain active in the faith. In contrast, 85% of children institutionalized for their education in god-less government school leave their faith. What is even **more** distressing is that those young adults who do claim to be Christian hold beliefs that are **not** in any way Christian.

If you want to prepare your children, then the best odds are found in homeschooling.
