It would be an act of terminal insanity for Barack Obama to name Hillary Clinton as his vice presidential candidate. It would not help him get elected, it would drag all the Clinton controversies into the general election, and having her down the hall in the West Wing would be a recipe for disaster, dissension and civil war. Other than that, its a hell of an idea!
Start with the election. There are two kinds of people who backed Hillary in the primaries: her original supporters and those who joined her later in the game. Her original backers are all solid Democrats whose arms would fall off before they would back anyone who is pro-life. They are true believers, feminists, pro-choice advocates, older party loyalists who would prefer Hillary, may have doubts about Obama, but will always fall in line and vote Democratic. The more recent converts are people who are turned off by Obamas connection to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and who worry that he might be a closet black radical. Their latent racial fears were heightened by revelations about Obamas links with Wright, and they voted for Hillary as the lesser of two evils. Putting Mrs. Clinton on the ticket will do nothing to assuage these fears. One wonders if these blue-collar, downscale, racially motivated voters would actually support Hillary against John McCain if she were to win the nomination. They certainly wouldnt follow her into Obamas camp just because she was on ticket.
Obamas key need in the election is to demonstrate his experience and ability to do job despite only minimal federal experience. Running with someone whose experience he, himself, derided will hardly solve this problem. Voters only credit Hillary with having experience when her record is compared with Obamas almost total lack of a record.

I already knew that Dick Morris hated Hillary.
He supported GW Bush in 2004 only because of the War on Terror. There is no Democrat who will support waging the War on Terror who will be the VP "as balance" on the Obama ticket.
Barack and Hillary ARE the names at this stage. Are there any Democrats who would vote for McCain if there isn't a magic "third" name on the ballot for the DNC ticket in November? Keeping her on the ballot keeps the loyal Democrats (who at this stage have horses in this race that they have decided to "champion") from looking elsewhere.
The other side of this coin is whether there is anyone McCain can have as VP who would turn off the "GOP over DNC" voter to either drop out of voting for president, or 2008 altogether? McCain is a weak candidate for many conservatives, is there any way his VP nod could sour that voter block even more?
Using my handy dandy Dick Morris rule of polital prognostication, i.e. Dick Morris is always 180 degrees out of phase, I am now convinced that Hillary may indeed be the VP nominee.
You read it here first...Obama’s running mate will be John Edwards. And they will both get creamed by McCain/Romney.
Having read that entire article, I hope Obama chooses Her Thighness as his VP candidate!
if Hillary were VP, there just might be an incident of Arkancide.
i’d be surprised if his pick were John Edwards... does Edwards want the vp slot again—with the chance of losing in that slot again? could he deliver any crucial states for Obama?
If Hillary is VP can you just see the fire works when Michelle takes the VP office in the West Wing and moves the Red Queen to a less lofty location???Michelle learned from the best!!
>I am now convinced that Hillary may indeed be the VP nominee.
The morris rule aside, I fear that you may indeed be right
Senator Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) questioned Hillarys prospective suitability for a vice-presidential nomination. Sure, she downed a shot of whiskey while campaigning in Pennsylvania, but could she drink a fifth in one sitting? he asked. Is she a good swimmer? What would she do if the ship-of-state runs aground? There are just too many unknowns about her capabilities. The Democratic Party needs a VP nominee who can balance Senator Obamas youthful exuberance with proven experience.

Look what happened when Kennedy picked Johnson....
hilary will do anything to get in the line of sucession, and stay there for as long as it takes.
Any other year, Morris might be right. I think he’s forgetting that these two got almost all the votes for the nomination. Placing both names on the ticket means everyone gets a slice of the Oval Office pie.
Hillary can say what she wants now, but my take is she would take the VP slot in a minute, if it were offered to her later on.
As much as these two have gone at each other, I’m thinking expediency brings it about.
McCain is a weak candidate for many conservatives, is there any way his VP nod could sour that voter block even more?
Yes, Huckabee.
No matter how much he wants to win, Obama would be crazy to pick Shrillary for VP nominee. He would need food-tasters and a greatly beefed up Secret Service team 24/7, and politically Bill and Shrillary would upstage Obama in so many ways. Sure they might “promise” to be team players but there is no way that either of those clowns would really stay subordinate to Obama for long, and he has to know that.
I think that’s a fair comment. It’s actually an aspect of this that I had failed to take into consideration. The ex-President status of Bill, would weigh heavily. The character and devious nature of Hillary would also.
I’d have to say those are factors I would think would preclude the link-up.
Good call.
