They’re still making Chinooks? You would think they would have come up with something better by now.

Yeah, the Chinook has been around for a while, since 1962. Hey, that’s longer than the M-16, which has been in service since 1965. Apparently, it’s a good, dependable aircraft. Likewise, so is the .50-cal machine gun; it’s been in service since 1921, and today’s MG’s are pretty much the exact same weapon we had in World War II.

Aw now Big Windy is a solid piece of machinery

The new “F” model is for all intents and purposes an all new helicopter capable carrying a heavier payload farther, faster, and at higher altitudes.

Chinooks are the workhorse helicopter of the Army.

Several pilots I know who have flown them over the years(one from the Vietnam era ‘til the 90’s) say they are a snap to fly, especially the newer models.

One guy said it was easier to fly and more responsive than any other Army helicopter. He said he could control the stick with one finger.

Hard to believe, but I saw a Military Channel feature on helocopters and an Apache driver said it was always embarassing but the Chinook could outrun the Apache. The Chinook was faster than his bird.

Some designs never die....ie: the B-52.

They have:

Of course the way Congress funds the military they will be several decades replacing the Chinooks.
